This book discusses the history of unrest and conflict in Northeast
India from 1947 to the present day. A perceptive study on public
policy and its delivery in the region, the volume highlights that a
crisis of governance, security and development has emerged in the
Northeast because of the way various government institutions and
agencies have been functioning in the area. It uses case studies to
illumine conflict dynamics in the two erstwhile princely states of
Manipur and Tripura, along with in-depth discussions on Assam and
Nagaland. Drawing upon major policy documents, on-the-ground
experience and rare insight, the book examines centre-state

survivors long after their treatments have officially ended. While
there are hundreds of books about breast cancer, ranging from
practical medical advice to inspirational stories of survivors,
what has been missing until now is testimony from the thousands of
women who continue to struggle with persistent health problems.
After the Cure is a compelling read filled with fascinating
portraits of more than seventy women who are living with the
aftermath of breast cancer. Emily K. Abel is one of these women.
She and her colleague, Saskia K. Subramanian, whose mother died of
cancer, interviewed more than seventy breast cancer survivors who
have suffered from post-treatment symptoms. Having heard repeatedly
that "the problems are all in your head," many don't know where to
turn for help. The doctors who now refuse to validate their
symptoms are often the very ones they depended on to provide
life-saving treatments. Sometimes family members who provided
essential support through months of chemotherapy and radiation
don't believe them. Their work lives, already disrupted by both
cancer and its treatment, are further undermined by the lingering
symptoms. And every symptom serves as a constant reminder of the
trauma of diagnosis, the ordeal of treatment, and the specter of
recurrence. Most narratives about surviving breast cancer end with
the conclusion of chemotherapy and radiation, painting
stereotypical portraits of triumphantly healthy survivors, women
who not only survive but emerge better and stronger than before.
Here, at last, survivors step out of the shadows and speak
compellingly about their "real" stories, giving voice to the
complicated, often painful realities of life after the cure. This

In collaboration with Consulting Editor Dr. Helen Boucher, Drs.
Aruna Subramanian and Dora Yuk-Wai Ho have created an extremely
timely and relevant issue for infectious disease physcians, as the
field of biologics is exploding. These new agents are being used in

Transplant and oncology patients present a challenge to the
infectious disease specialist because many of the entities that
infect them are hard to diagnose.? Chemotherapy may further
complicate the situation, since it may contraindicate a biopsy or
interfere with antibiotic therapy. This issue of Infectious Disease

Among the various geophysical techniques based on the physical
properties of the earth, electrical methods are important.
Resistivity techniques with artificial current sources are widely
used for the ground water explorations. In this project work, an
attempt has been made of evaluate the groundwater potentiality in
two acres of land at 74-Krishnapuram village, Gangavalli Taluk,
Salem District. Two locations, have been selected and 60 meters in
each location, have been explored for water potentiality. It is
found that one site is suitable for dug well and also for bore-well
drilling. The physical principles involved, field procedures
employed and interpretations followed have been provided in this
work. The empirical data are interpreted and results are furnished
at the book. Later the area was visited and found that the results
are exactly reflected during drilling.

This monograph presents an artificial neural network (ANN) model
for the analysis and assessment of infilled frames subjected to
lateral loading. A multilayer feedforward network with
backpropagation learning algorithm has been adopted to model the
behaviour of infilled frames. Both reinforced concrete and steel
frames were considered in the analysis. Based on a parametric study
the optimum architecture of the network was arrived at, and it is
observed that the trained networks are able to predict the failure
loads and displacement of both reinforced concrete and steel
infilled frames for all the test patterns satisfactorily. The
equations which were formed based on a regression analysis between
the predicted results and the actual results showed good agreement
with new set of data. Hence, these equations can be used to obtain
the actual capacity of the infilled frames. An experimental
investigation also has been carried out in this monograph to check
the efficacy of the developed model. The monograph focuses on the
work carried by the first author at Anna University, Chennai,
India; as a part of her doctoral study.
