Third Harmonic Utilization in Permanent Magnet Machines (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019): Kai Wang, Ziqiang Zhu Third Harmonic Utilization in Permanent Magnet Machines (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Kai Wang, Ziqiang Zhu
R2,799 Discovery Miles 27 990 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book investigates the utilization of harmonics in the permanent magnet (PM) or rotor shape to improve the torque density of PM brushless AC machines including three-phase inner rotor and outer rotor machines, five-phase machines, dual three-phase machines, linear machines, by means of analytical, finite element analyses, and as well as experimental validation. The torque density can be improved while the torque ripple remains low in PM shaping utilizing the 3rd harmonic. In this book, the analytical expression of output torque is derived for PM machines with rotor shape using the 3rd harmonic, and then the optimal 3rd harmonic for maximizing torque is analytically obtained. The book compares the PM shape in surface-mounted PM (SPM) machines and the rotor lamination shape in interior PM (IPM) machines utilizing the 3rd harmonic, and it becomes clear that their shaping methods and amount of torque improvement are different. In a five-phase PM machine, the 3rd harmonic can be utilized in both the current waveform and PM shapes to further improve the output torque. For the dual three-phase SPM machines without deteriorating the torque more than 30% when the optimal 3rd harmonic into both the current and PM shape are injected. The harmonics in airgap flux density have significant influence on the cogging torque, stator iron flux distribution, and radial force between the rotor and stator. These effects has been investigated as well in this book.

The Dirichlet distribution appears in many areas of application, which include modelling of compositional data, Bayesian analysis, statistical genetics, and nonparametric inference. This book provides a comprehensive review of the Dirichlet distribution and two extended versions, the Grouped Dirichlet Distribution (GDD) and the Nested Dirichlet Distribution (NDD), arising from likelihood and Bayesian analysis of incomplete categorical data and survey data with non-response.

The theoretical properties and applications are also reviewed in detail for other related distributions, such as the inverted Dirichlet distribution, Dirichlet-multinomial distribution, the truncated Dirichlet distribution, the generalized Dirichlet distribution, Hyper-Dirichlet distribution, scaled Dirichlet distribution, mixed Dirichlet distribution, Liouville distribution, and the generalized Liouville distribution.

Key Features: Presents many of the results and applications that are scattered throughout the literature in one single volume.
Looks at the most recent results such as survival function and characteristic function for the uniform distributions over the hyper-plane and simplex; distribution for linear function of Dirichlet components; estimation via the expectation-maximization gradient algorithm and application; etc.
Likelihood and Bayesian analyses of incomplete categorical data by using GDD, NDD, and the generalized Dirichlet distribution are illustrated in detail through the EM algorithm and data augmentation structure.Presents a systematic exposition of the Dirichlet-multinomial distribution for multinomial data with extra variation which cannot be handled by the multinomial distribution.
S-plus/R codes are featured along with practical examples illustrating the methods.

Practitioners and researchers working in areas such as medical science, biological science and social science will benefit from this book.

Passive Network Synthesis: Advances With Inerter (Hardcover): Michael Zhiqiang Chen, Kai Wang, Guanrong Chen Passive Network Synthesis: Advances With Inerter (Hardcover)
Michael Zhiqiang Chen, Kai Wang, Guanrong Chen
R2,491 Discovery Miles 24 910 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

After the invention of a new mechanical element called 'inerter' in 2002, research interest in passive network synthesis has been revived and this field has again become active and essential. The unique compendium highlights the synthesis of passive electrical or mechanical networks, which is motivated by the vibration control based on a new type of mechanical elements named inerter. It introduces important fundamental concepts of passive network synthesis, and presents recent results on this topic. These new results concern mainly the economical realizations of low-degree functions as RLC networks (damper-spring-inerter networks), the synthesis of n-port resistive networks, and the synthesis of low-complexity mechanical networks. They can be directly applied to the optimization and design of various inerter-based mechanical control systems, such as suspension systems, vibration absorbers, building vibration systems, etc. This useful reference text provides important methodologies and results for researchers in the fields of circuit theory, vibration system control, passive systems, control theory, and electrical engineering.

Bayesian Missing Data Problems - EM, Data Augmentation and Noniterative Computation (Paperback): Ming T. Tan, Guo-Liang Tian,... Bayesian Missing Data Problems - EM, Data Augmentation and Noniterative Computation (Paperback)
Ming T. Tan, Guo-Liang Tian, Kai Wang Ng
R1,846 Discovery Miles 18 460 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Bayesian Missing Data Problems: EM, Data Augmentation and Noniterative Computation presents solutions to missing data problems through explicit or noniterative sampling calculation of Bayesian posteriors. The methods are based on the inverse Bayes formulae discovered by one of the author in 1995. Applying the Bayesian approach to important real-world problems, the authors focus on exact numerical solutions, a conditional sampling approach via data augmentation, and a noniterative sampling approach via EM-type algorithms. After introducing the missing data problems, Bayesian approach, and posterior computation, the book succinctly describes EM-type algorithms, Monte Carlo simulation, numerical techniques, and optimization methods. It then gives exact posterior solutions for problems, such as nonresponses in surveys and cross-over trials with missing values. It also provides noniterative posterior sampling solutions for problems, such as contingency tables with supplemental margins, aggregated responses in surveys, zero-inflated Poisson, capture-recapture models, mixed effects models, right-censored regression model, and constrained parameter models. The text concludes with a discussion on compatibility, a fundamental issue in Bayesian inference. This book offers a unified treatment of an array of statistical problems that involve missing data and constrained parameters. It shows how Bayesian procedures can be useful in solving these problems.

Cohesive Subgraph Search Over Large Heterogeneous Information Networks (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022): Yixiang Fang, Kai Wang,... Cohesive Subgraph Search Over Large Heterogeneous Information Networks (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Yixiang Fang, Kai Wang, Xuemin Lin, Wenjie Zhang
R1,113 Discovery Miles 11 130 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This SpringerBrief provides the first systematic review of the existing works of cohesive subgraph search (CSS) over large heterogeneous information networks (HINs). It also covers the research breakthroughs of this area, including models, algorithms and comparison studies in recent years. This SpringerBrief offers a list of promising future research directions of performing CSS over large HINs. The authors first classify the existing works of CSS over HINs according to the classic cohesiveness metrics such as core, truss, clique, connectivity, density, etc., and then extensively review the specific models and their corresponding search solutions in each group. Note that since the bipartite network is a special case of HINs, all the models developed for general HINs can be directly applied to bipartite networks, but the models customized for bipartite networks may not be easily extended for other general HINs due to their restricted settings. The authors also analyze and compare these cohesive subgraph models (CSMs) and solutions systematically. Specifically, the authors compare different groups of CSMs and analyze both their similarities and differences, from multiple perspectives such as cohesiveness constraints, shared properties, and computational efficiency. Then, for the CSMs in each group, the authors further analyze and compare their model properties and high-level algorithm ideas. This SpringerBrief targets researchers, professors, engineers and graduate students, who are working in the areas of graph data management and graph mining. Undergraduate students who are majoring in computer science, databases, data and knowledge engineering, and data science will also want to read this SpringerBrief.
