Gerard Seijts, Karen MacMillan
R4,171 Discovery Miles 41 710 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Recent financial crises and other high-profile mismanagement cases have brought a spotlight to the quality of leader character in the business sector. Leadership in Practice is the first book to provide an authoritative collection of cases to engage students interested in the importance of the character of business leaders. The authors have compiled a collection of cutting-edge cases and readings, situating them within a theoretical landscape, so students are familiarized with the concepts as they move through the text. The cases cover a wide range of successful businesses-from the NFL to Apple-and include notable controversies, such as those surrounding Enron and Volkswagen. Alongside exclusive interviews and insights into the value of leadership character at individual, team, organizational and societal levels, the book includes learning objectives and discussion questions to facilitate lively debate and interaction in the classroom. This volume will be a valuable supplement for students and instructors in any leadership class as well as researchers and practitioners interested in exploring case studies that illuminate the nature of leadership in a business setting.

Trauma is a situation where one is not in control of one's life. This book is about becoming the author and authority, rather than a hostage, of your life. We think of trauma as the big and obvious events, such as major catastrophes like 9/11 or a tsunami, or as childhood abuse and neglect. These are important of course, but there is another potential trauma that is rarely talked about. It happens at a time that we do not remember and cannot discuss. This is 'symbiotic trauma', the trauma of coming into a less than welcoming world at the beginning of life. It is a trauma that happens before memory, in that pre-verbal time of our existence, and it influences us profoundly, including our capacity for dealing with later traumas. This handbook will take you on a journey of hope. Trauma can be healed and resolved. You can't do all the work of healing your trauma on your own, but this handbook gives you some basics to help you on your way, and gives you some pointers to finding the appropriate help. Vivian Broughton has been a psychotherapist in private practice since 1989. She has developed her current work along the model proposed by Franz Ruppert in which unresolved trauma, particularly early attachment trauma and the entanglement with earlier systemic traumas, underlies all of our psychological difficulties.

The Faun (Paperback): Karen Mcmillan The Faun (Paperback)
Karen Mcmillan
R289 Discovery Miles 2 890 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Faun collectively pieces together short poems and is for everyone who resonates with the messages they may hold for each reader. The poems express the nature of self and our special union with nature all around us, allowing a quiet time to be with the words simply written and delicately placed. Words are used to bring ideas and thoughts to the fore in a childlike innocence that can arouse feelings of comfort to the reader while spending time to reflect and see beyond our everyday lives which can at times distant us from ourselves. The Faun represents a gentle nurturing of our inner child and allows us to open our hearts and minds to a deeper level of individuality and to nurture the elemental forces of nature. The Faun thinks out of the box and celebrates all energies of life and invites our spirit self to do the same and celebrate a soul residing in all of us.
