Der Zentral verband deutscher Konsumgenossenschaften e. V. errichtete zum Anfang des Jahres 1957 eine Forschungsstelle fur Konsumwirtschaft. Ihr ist die Aufgabe gestellt, unter besonderer Berucksichtigung der Konsum genossenschaften die wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Probleme im Bereich der Absatzwirtschaft in ihrer Entwicklung und ihren Wandlungen fortlaufend zu beobachten und soweit wie moglich auch zu untersuchen. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeiten sollen nicht nur fur die Zwecke der Konsumgenossenschaften selbst ausgewertet, sondern auch einer weiteren Offentlichkeit zuganglich gemacht werden. Die Veroffentlichungen der Forschungsstelle fur Konsumwirtschaft werden in einer besonderen Schriftenreihe der Verlagsgesellschaft deutscher Konsum genossenschaften m. b. H. erscheinen. Es ist daran gedacht, ausser Arbeiten der Forschungsstelle selbst auch fachwissenschaftliche Untersuchungen anderer Stellen herauszubringen, soweit solche Untersuchungen in den Aufgaben bereich der Forschungsstelle fallen. In diesem Sinne wird die Reihe mit einer Stellungnahme zu Fragen der Absatzwirtschaft von Herrn Professor Dr. Kar Schiller, Hamburg, begonnen, die vom Zentralverband deutscher Konsum genossenschaften e. V., der Grosseinkaufs-Gesellschaft Deutscher Konsum genossenschaften m. b. H. zusammen mit anderen Organisationen des Handels erbeten worden ist. Die Veroffentlichungen der Forschungsstelle mogen dazu beitragen, die fach wissenschaftliche Diskussion innerhalb der Absatzwirtschaft anzuregen und zu fordern. So kann auch die Forschungsstelle auf ihre Weise einen Beitrag zur Losung der Aufgabe leisten, die die Konsumgenossenschaften sich gestellt haben: dem Verbraucher zu helfen, wo immer es geht. V. begrusst die Vorlage des ersten Bandes der Schriftenreihe und wunscht der Forschungs stelle fur Konsumwirtschaft mit den von ihr geplanten Arbeiten gutes Gelingen."
