Mia Madison is her school’s premier kid-trepreneur (that’s a kid business owner). She’s started a successful pet sitting business—Have-A-Nice-Vacation—and a seasonal lemonade stand—Pack Some Punch Stand. When Mia realizes that she can help her classmates through her business experience, she comes up with a great idea for her third business: KidBiz Tips with Mia Madison! Mia has made a name for herself at her school as an entrepreneur after launching not one, but two, successful businesses. Now her classmates need her help with their own ventures, and Mia must put her problem-solving skills to the test. Whether she’s helping them get their business off the ground, work with customers, or invent new problem-solving products, Mia is sure to teach them all something new. However, Mia soon finds that juggling her businesses, schoolwork, and friends can be a challenge. With the help of her CEO mom, Mia tackles her friends’ problems (and her own) head-on and teaches them, and readers, the ins-and-outs of running a successful kid business. This is the first book in a brand new series featuring a fun, illustrative format with 40 spot illustrations and doodles throughout!

Technology-enabled Mathematics Education explores how teachers of mathematics are using digital technologies to enhance student engagement in classrooms, from the early years through to the senior years of school. The research underpinning this book is grounded in real classrooms. The chapters offer ten rich case studies of mathematics teachers who have become exemplary users of technology. Each case study includes the voices of leaders, teachers and their students, providing insights into their practices, beliefs and perceptions of mathematics and technology-enabled teaching. These insights inform an exciting new theoretical model, the Technology Integration Pyramid, for guiding teachers and researchers as they endeavour to understand the complexities involved in planning for effective teaching with technology. This book is a unique resource for educational researchers and students studying primary and secondary mathematics teaching, as well as practising mathematics teachers.

The third book in a humorous and heartfelt chapter book series about a second grade class where each kid turns into an animal for a dayMadison tries her best to spread joy and be helpful, even when people like her Great-Aunt Joelle seem to think that she can't do or say anything right. Still, she goes into Mrs. Norrell's class with her head held high, ready to brainstorm ideas for her group project on activism. But after her Great-Aunt Joelle shoots down her ideas, she starts to wonder if maybe she isn't really cut out to be a leader or change-maker. Then, something strange happens: Madison turns into a mouse! Her voice is high-pitched and squeaky, her heart beats furiously in her body, and she's so so small. Luckily, one of her kindhearted classmates, Tally Tuttle, helps to get her to safety so no one squishes her by accident. Will Madison be able to navigate her own insecurities and the unexpected dangers of being a mouse-and turn back into herself before the end of the day? Or will she be stuck eating cheese and hiding from cats for the rest of her life? In this new chapter book series, Mrs. Norrell's second grade classroom has magic that allows kids to transform into animals to learn important life lessons. Each book follows a different kid and their animal transformation and includes fun natural science facts about the featured animal in the back matter.

GIS Simulation of the Earliest Hominid Colonisation of Eurasia (Paperback): Kathryn Holmes GIS Simulation of the Earliest Hominid Colonisation of Eurasia (Paperback)
Kathryn Holmes
R3,317 Discovery Miles 33 170 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In order to understand fully Plio-Pleistocene hominid migrations, a whole gamut of interacting factors must be examined. It has been hypothesised that the most important variables affecting hominid migrations out of Africa would have been environmental, since in most respects hominids would have acted in the same manner as any other large land mammal of the time. For this work, therefore, as far as language barriers permitted, as many published sources as could be traced from palynological and palaeontological sites from the Late Pliocene and Early Pleistocene within east and northern Africa and Eurasia were included in the analysis. By examining the relationship between hominids, fauna and vegetation at sites in East Africa, as well as at Dmanisi and 'Ubeidiya, the author was able to determine with what genera and in what environments hominids were preferentially associated. The use of a GIS simulation allowed the generation of a distribution map showing areas in Africa and Eurasia where the same combination of fauna and vegetation could be found. Various other interdisciplinary aspects of Late Pliocene and Early Pleistocene geography were also examined, indicating that during the earliest part of the period in question the Northern Hemisphere environment was distinctly less arid than in modern times, with areas of desert substantially reduced leading to large expanses of grassland. With the onset of glaciation the climate became increasingly arid, with an environment close to the modern situation developing by the Middle Pleistocene. The effect of this on the timing and routing of hominid migration pathways is also covered in this volume. 148 (Archaeopress 2007)
