The year 2020 brought an unprecedented worldwide health crisis
through the COVID-19 pandemic that has been affecting all sectors,
including education. There were questions surrounding the
effectiveness of online trainings for teachers, online teaching
practices, the motivation and engagement of students, and the
quality of learning and education in these times. Action research
emerged to address these concerns, being a systematic process of
inquiry using reflection within a cyclical model of planning,
acting, implementing, evaluating, and continuous reflection. This
method of research is employed with the expertise and passion from
educators to better enhance online practices and education while
using authentic learning and experiences. Using collaboration,
social advocacy, and action research, there is the opportunity to
advance teaching for students, families, and communities without a
physical context involved. The Handbook of Research on the Global
Empowerment of Educators and Student Learning Through Action
Research explores successful teaching and learning skills through
the method of action research and intersects it with online
learning in order to uncover best teaching practices in online
platforms. This book showcases educational professionals' action
research for solutions in advancing teaching and learning, the
practical benefits of action research, recommendations for
improving online teaching and learning, and a focus on professional
growth as well as social justice advocacy. It highlights important
topics including student learning, teacher collaboration, authentic
learning, advocacy, and action research in both K-12 and higher
education settings. This book is ideal for inservice and preservice
teachers, administrators, teacher educators, practitioners,
researchers, academicians, and students interested in how action
research is improving and advancing knowledge on the best teaching
practices for online education.
Classroom routines are the sequences and order that students are
asked to follow, be it walking in line through the hall, or
answering "present" when their name is called. Established routines
run themselves, and are the well-oiled machines that help a
classroom function. Routines can also provide the groundwork for a
learning environment that nourishes student-driven learning.
Simple, structured routines can help maximize learning by providing
stability, consistency, and time management skills - for both
teachers and students. This thoughtful book shows how to use
flexible, well-structured routines to build classroom community,
foster independent work, differentiate lessons, increase student
engagement, and encourage collaboration. The ideal resource to help
teachers devote every minute in the school day to effective
learning.
Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and
I'll understand. - Chinese proverb This timely approach to
classroom instruction shows teachers how to incorporate flexibility
and student-driven learning into the classroom. Designed to help
teachers reflect on their current teaching practice, this
innovative book suggests small shifts, medium-sized ideas, and big
changes that can be made to encourage student engagement through
flexible, student-centred learning. Student-Driven Learning
recognises that children learn by immersing themselves in their
experiences. Once they truly understand a concept, they can link it
to other experiences and feel a sense of empowerment over their
learning, their knowledge, and what comes next. Experiential
earning that is student-driven fosters autonomy and shifts the
focus from the knowledge and influence of the teacher to the
experiences of the students. Teachers know that their students love
to explore and learn. But, how do we make this possible with 30
students, with different needs, learning styles, and backgrounds,
all in one small room with one teacher in the class? This practical
book argues that the answer isn't about rewriting the curriculum or
writing individualised lessons and tasks for each student. The
answer is to introduce opportunities for students to learn their
own way, to take initiative, and to experience, wonder, and create.
Ideal for new and experienced teachers, Student-Driven Learning is
a powerful guide to creating lifelong learners who are ready for
what the future will bring.
