Industrial Process Identification brings together the latest
advances in perturbation signal design. It describes the approaches
to the design process that are relevant to industries. The authors'
discussion of several software packages (Frequency Domain System
Identification Toolbox, prs, GALOIS, multilev_new, and
Input-Signal-Creator) will allow readers to understand the
different designs in industries and begin designing common classes
of signals. The authors include two case studies that provide a
balance between the theory and practice of these designs: the
identification of a direction-dependent electronic nose system; and
the identification of a multivariable cooling system with
time-varying delay. Major aspects of signal design such as the
formulation of suitable specifications in the face of practical
constraints, the classes of designs available, the various
objectives necessitating separate treatments when dealing with
nonlinear systems, and extension to multi-input scenarios, are
discussed. Codes, including some that will produce simulated data,
are included to help readers replicate the results described.
Industrial Process Identification is a powerful source of
information for control engineers working in the process and
communications industries seeking guidance on choosing
identification software tools for use in practical experiments and
case studies. The book will also be of interest to academic
researchers and students working in electrical, mechanical and
communications engineering and the application of perturbation
signal design. Advances in Industrial Control reports and
encourages the transfer of technology in control engineering. The
rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas
of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for
researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all
aspects of industrial control.
This book uncovers exactly what is involved when researchers from
different disciplines engage with one another in research projects.
The authors identify the opportunities and difficulties involved in
interdisciplinary engagement, and challenge current claims about
where the greatest difficulties are to be found. The first part of
the book introduces interdisciplinarity and identifies key issues
that influence our understanding of it. The second part of the book
presents the findings of research based on over 50 hours of
recording and nearly 450,000 words of transcript drawn from a
number of university faculties, concluding with a discussion of how
this might inform interdisciplinary practice. The book is
accessible to the non-specialist reader while also being of
interest to social scientists working in professional and academic
communication.
Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise.
When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love or if she’s a ruthless con artist using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth.
When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
Routledge Applied Linguistics is a series of comprehensive
textbooks, providing students and researchers with the support they
need for advanced study in the core areas of English language and
Applied Linguistics. Each book in the series guides readers through
three main sections, enabling them to explore and develop major
themes within the discipline. Section A, Introduction, establishes
the key terms and concepts and extends readers' techniques of
analysis through practical application. Section B, Extension,
brings together influential articles, sets them in context, and
discusses their contribution to the field. Section C, Exploration,
builds on knowledge gained in the first two sections, setting
thoughtful tasks around further illustrative material. This enables
readers to engage more actively with the subject matter and
encourages them to develop their own research responses. Throughout
the book, topics are revisited, extended, interwoven and
deconstructed, with the reader's understanding strengthened by
tasks and follow-up questions. Research Methods for Applied
Language Studies: Provides an advanced introduction to quantitative
and qualitative research methods used in second and foreign
language learning, teaching and assessment Takes readers step by
step through the processes of research, from formulating research
questions to writing up a dissertation or report. Employs a wide
variety of carefully structured tasks and discussion points to
guide the reader through the key themes, frameworks and procedures
of applied language research, including ethnography, conversation
analysis and quasi-experimental designs. Engages students in
readings and tasks on articles from leading names in the field,
including Alison Mackey, Roy Lyster, Angela Creese, Junko Mori, Rod
Ellis and Diane Larsen-Freeman. Is supported by a Companion
Website, including data sets for practice and guides to writing a
proposal, making recordings, conducting interviews, producing
questionnaires and organising a dissertation. Written by
experienced teachers and researchers in the field, Research Methods

Long before there was a band, there was a boy: a young Keith
Richards, who was introduced to the joy of music through his
beloved granddad, Theodore Augustus Dupree, affectionately known as
"Gus," who was in a jazz big band and is the namesake of Keith's
daughter, Theodora Dupree Richards. "Gus & Me" offers a rare
and intimate look into the childhood of the legendary Keith
Richards through this poignant and inspiring story that is lovingly
illustrated with Theodora Richards's exquisite pen-and-ink
collages. This unique autobiographical picture book honors the
special bond between a grandfather and grandson and celebrates the
artistic talents of the Richards family through the generations. It
will also include selected photographs from the Richards family
collection and an exclusive audio CD featuring bonus content.

'The definitive story of The Rolling Stones' Heat In 2003, The
Rolling Stones Forty Licks Tour sold out at venues across the
country, testimony to their legendary status. In this remarkable
book, the Stones themselves reveal the story behind that legend,
getting right to the heart of what makes the group tick. It's the
band's eye view of their history, punctuated by pithy comments on
album and single releases, on memorable performances and on the ups
and downs of their private world, and illustrated with 64 pages of
stunning illustrations, many from their own personal archives. The
book begins with their roots and what brought them together. It
then charts their rise from playing in tiny clubs to their success
as 'the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world. They describe how
their music has evolved and how it has changed their lives. 'It
wasn't so much a question of being a wizard on the guitar. You also
had to be quite a magician to live with the Stones' Ronnie Wood
'Can't Be Satisfied is that rare thing in musical biographies: a
book that maps out not just a single, extraordinary life but the
cultural forces that shaped it' Sean O'Hagan, Observer Muddy Waters
was the greatest blues musician ever, and the most influential. He
invented electric blues, inspired the Rolling Stones and created
the template for the rock 'n' roll band and its wild lifestyle.
Robert Gordon's definitive biography vividly chronicles the
extraordinary life and personality of the musical legend who
changed the course of modern popular music.
This book offers a unique look at a typical Illinois farm family
across seventy years, through letters of friends and family. The
Owen family letters will provide insight into the lives and events
of a farming family in Illinois in the 1800s. Between 1840 and
1906, Jason and Abigail Owen and their daughter, Bertha Owen Bice,
received eighty-eight letters from family and friends, which they
saved. More than half of those letters were from Clarence and Mary
Owen, Bertha's brother and sister. Clarence was a soldier who
enlisted in the 38th Infantry Regiment, Illinois, at the beginning
of the U.S. Civil War. He was seventeen years old and wrote home
often. Mary (also known as Mate) was a school teacher who left home
at the age of twenty to teach about 200 miles away from her
parents. In addition to the normal family activities, the authors
of the letters refer to such events as the election of a "neighbor"
to the White House, meeting "Crazy" Bill Sherman before the siege
of Atlanta, and that "fire in Chicago." The book contains period
maps, pertinent family trees, photographs of people, a cemetery
containing family gravesites, and the letters themselves. It also
contains two original civil war poems. The book cross-references
events chronicled in the memoirs of the regimental commander
Clarence Owen, one of the primary letter authors. An index to
full-names, places and subjects completes this work. The authors
are the great grandchildren of Bertha Owen.
