IT WILL BE OKAY - Perhaps that's what this book should have been titled. "It will be okay," were the very words said to Poodessa when she was just a little girl. They were spoken to her, by her Grandmother, during one of the most trying and heartbreaking moments of the young girl's life. They are words that carry her, even today. But know this, that is the only glimpse, well, that and the mention of some macaroni and cheese, that you get of her childhood. This, as Grandma would say, is about seeing the glass half full. You see, this is a story about believing, faith and moving forward. The 80's gave us a Princess and the 90's introduced us to Beyonce, but move over because the next decade gave us Poodessa. And just who is this Poodessa? She's you. She's every woman who wanted something better, to be better. She's every woman who wanted to take a chance and follow her dreams, and maybe, just maybe, make them a reality. This is a story about a journey, though a lifetime in the making, that starts off during The Great Recession. In addition to faith and humor, it is a tale woven with Grandma's proverbs and truisms. Grandma always said, "You just have to have faith." Well, thankfully, Grandma said many things. Oh yeah, being we are in a society consumed with frippery, Poodessa cleverly references celebrities. How is it that celebrities are somehow more special? This story begins in Michigan at the start of The Great Recession. It commences in Atlanta, culminates on the internet and will conclude with a speech. Poodessa's Pragmatic Practices is as much a story of most of us as it is the human touch. It doesn't matter much what your profession, income or family status is. While we are all experiencing the same challenging economic times, it is rather uncanny, yet comforting, to see how, though we are all so different, we are all too familiar. It matters not if you are an elite athlete, a Hollywood legend or a janitor, nobody goes through life unscathed, and we could all use a little encouragement, laughter and a reminder of faith to get through it. Oh, the things Poodessa does From getting a job, losing a job, endless job hunting Thank goodness her hairdresser uses his talents to make her feel better. And who doesn't feel better with great hair Poodessa even tries out to be a cheerleader for the NFL. Does she end up the next Laura Vikmanis? She finds odd jobs and a colorful mix of goodhearted people in between. Next comes flight attendant training. Poodessa missed the final by one lousy point. So how does it all end up? As Grandma would, again, say, "It's time to pee or get off the pot." Well, it's time to get off that pot Does Poodessa find a job, make the NFL squad, become an entrepreneur? This is a true story about believing, ingenuity, faith and giving back. After the preamble, promise yourself that you won't be afraid to laugh.
