Konon's collection of fifty mythical "Narratives" "(Diegeseis),"
which he dedicated to King Archelaos Philopatris of Cappadocia (36
B.C.-A.D. 17), is one of the most interesting mythographical works,
not least because of the great variety of the material. It has also
been one of the most neglected, in part because the work has not
survived in its original form but in the summary of Photios, and
also in part because it is the sole extant mythographic collection
that was not organized around a particular theme, such as the
better-known works of Parthenios and Antoninus Liberalis. Each
narrative is set in a specific locality. Although several mythical
categories are represented, foundation legends "(ktiseis)" and cult
and local aetiologies predominate. Konon records versions of myths
that depart from the standard tellings, as well as myths otherwise
unattested.
MOVING FORWARD:But Knowing The Rules to the Game of Love. Are rules and stories with real people in mind. People who love and hate and sometimes even have sex for all the wrong reasons. I wanted my stories to wrench the soul. Open the mind to feel my love, my pain and to teach us to support in the cause and our relationship with each other. Maybe my words might counsel you into coming to grips with anger, fear and pain, that's behind our behavior in our way of living.

Set deep in the wilds of Texas is Caddo Lake, a rich, primeval swampland populated by characters straight out of modern mythology. Central to this area's history is Judge Newland and his extended circle of friends and kin-a.k.a., the BOND. Here, their story is told in a vivid, often convoluted fashion, as is befitting the true nature of the Texas wilderness. Judge "Daddy" Newland knew-and was known by-everyone in this part of Texas, and his teachings were legendary. He urged his friends to seek truth and to ask for wisdom from God. He expected them to ask tough questions. He demanded that they keep their eyes against the seductive nature of evil and hate and that they look out for one another. He believed that nature was the only true beauty in the world and that it should always remain free. He knew that love was the most important of all emotions, followed only by hope-and that the two could never be separated. He directed his friends to look to the ancient world for truth and inspiration. And from those ancients, he formulated a deep appreciation for the pleasures of the flesh. Daddy Newland directed his grandson, Kenneth Brown, to use his skills to share the teachings of his generation. Just as he was promised, those life lessons are within, ready to teach the next generation of Texans and beyond. "Fate brings interesting people together and then blesses the responsible," he used to say, and that's the core of his legacy.

North Carolina's highway system was one of the greatest single
steps toward progress ever made by the state, linking the somnolent
and backward communities with the more accessible and progressive
sections. This volume presents the story of this highway system
with due regard to the conditions of the past out of which it grew.
The story of North Carolina's railroad development is the story of
a long and unsuccessful struggle to secure a trunk line east and
west. Today the main railroads run north and south, following the
fundamental geographical lay of the land, the original dream
defeated by geography, sectional differences, politics, and the
paralyzing effects of war.
