Originally published in 1971. Nineteenth-century theatre in England
has been greatly neglected, although serious study would reveal
that the roots of much modern drama are to be found in the
experiments and extravagancies of the nineteenth-century stage. The
essays collected here cover a range of topics within the world of
Victorian theatre, from particular actors to particular theatres;
from farce to Byron's tragedies, plus a separate section about
Shakespearean productions.

Taking as notional parameters the upheaval of the French Revolution
and the events leading up to the Unification of Italy, this volume
charts a period of political and social turbulence in Europe and
its reflection in theatrical life. Apart from considering external
factors like censorship and legal sanctions on theatrical activity,
the volume examines the effects of prevailing operational
conditions on the internal organization of companies, their
repertoire, acting, stage presentation, playhouse architecture and
the relationship with audiences. Also covered are technical
advances in stage machinery, scenography and lighting, the changing
position of the playwright and the continuing importance of various
street entertainments, particularly in Italy, where dramatic
theatre remained the poor relation of the operatic, and itinerant
acting troupes still constituted the norm. The 460 documents, many
of them illustrated, have been drawn from sources in Britain,
France and Italy and have been annotated, and translated where
appropriate.
Crystal engineers need an understanding of bonding theory,
computational chemistry, applied spectroscopy, structural methods,
synthesis strategies, and applications of custom-designed solids.
This book contains chapters on all these topics, written by
internationally recognized experts, plus contributions from leading
researchers in the field.

Workshop on th Green Industrial Applications of Ionic Liquids held
April 12th_16 , 2000 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. This was the
fIrst international meeting devoted to research in the area of
ionic liquids (salts with melting points below 100 0c), and was
intended to explore the promise of ionic liquids as well as to set
a research agenda for the fIeld. It was the fIrst international
meeting dedicated to the study and application of ionic liquids as
solvents, and forty-one scientists and engineers from academia,
industry, and government research laboratories (as well as six
industry observers and four student assistants) met to discuss the
current and future status of the application of ionic liquids to
new green industrial technologies. It was immediately clear that
the number of organic chemists and engineers working in the fIeld
needed to be increased. It was also clear that the declining
interest in high temperature molten salts and subsequent increase
in low melting ionic liquid solvents had not yet taken hold in
Eastern Europe. Participants from NATO Partner Countries
contributed signifIcant expertise in high temperature molten salts
and were able to take back a new awareness and interest in ionic
liquid solvents.

Was Jesus just a spiritual leader, like Buddha, Krishna, Confucius,
and Muhammad? Or is he something more--something else entirely? In
God among Sages, apologist Ken Samples offers readers a biblical
and historical portrait of Jesus, grounded in the claims Jesus
makes about himself. Then Samples compares and contrasts Jesus with
Buddha, Krishna, Confucius, and Muhammad using eight relevant
categories of evaluation. He also helps readers understand the
competing philosophies of religious pluralism, inclusivism, and
exclusivism. The result is a clearer understanding of what sets
Jesus apart as not simply a teacher to follow but God himself,
worthy of our full allegiance and worship. Christians who struggle
to answer claims that Jesus was just a good teacher, as well as
those haven't quite made up their minds about Jesus's claims to
divinity, will value this accessible introduction to comparative
religions.
This final omnibus of the Martian War series recounts the return of
Grant Merger, the notorious enemy of the Empire. After Karen
McMaster is made the victim of a merciless attack, Ken Barron sets
out to destroy Merger -- who was once his dearest friend -- and in
so doing uses the might of the Earth Empire indiscriminately
against the Union of Solar Asteroids, a new government harboring
Merger and other villains. Told by Barron with his usual
candidness, 2235: The World Is Broken reveals how much damage one
man can do, when allowed to wield great power in the service of a
personal vendetta.
The fallout of the Martian War was complex, and 2234: Victory From
Peace follows Ken Barron, Karen McMaster and Charlie Peters as they
struggle to help secure peace with Mars, and to prevent a coup on
Earth that could undermine victory. Beginning at the peace
convention on Mars, the omnibus reveals more of the tragedy of
Egesta, and then candidly explores Emperor Luther Gregory's attempt
to depose the Empire's elected government. Narrated by Ken Barron
with his usual caustic sense of humor, this volume helps readers
discover how close we came to defeat -- even after the last shots
were fired.
Always be prepared to give an answer. One of the unique aspects of
Christianity is that it stands up to honest intellectual scrutiny.
"Without a Doubt" offers solid, succinct answers to twenty classic
questions that challenge the Christian faith, including: -God's
existence -creation and the universe -the historical veracity of
Scripture -Jesus Christ's true identity -God as Trinity -faith vs.
science -God and evil -Christianity and other religions Authorities
ranging from prophets and philosophers to scientists and the
Scriptures provide rational explanations and compelling evidence
for those who have questions about their faith or question faith
altogether. "Samples exhibits the virtues of charity and
intellectual integrity along with a deep understanding of the sorts
of challenges to the Christian faith that are offered in our
contemporary world and must be met by the serious Christian.
"Without a Doubt" is a wonderful work."--Francis J. Beckwith,
Baylor University, author of "Relativism" ""Without a Doubt" fills
a specific void in the apologetic literature. It brings together
very careful research with a reader-friendly style. A great read
for anyone interested in answers to some of life's most puzzling
questions."--J. P. Moreland, Talbot School of Theology, author of
"Love Your God with All Your Mind" "Rarely does one find such an
array of issues and quality responses under one cover, all ready
for personal use or in addressing questions or challenges."--Gary
R. Habermas, Liberty University, author of "The Historical Jesus"
