Slum beautiful is a remarkable, straight forward, poetic and eye
stretching memoir of KyDeja Morgan's (Slum Beautiful) struggling
life. In her first 28 years of life she was molested, practiced
blasphemous acts, robbed, sold drugs, used drugs, prostituted, and
arrested and almost prosecuted for the murders of both her mother
and brother. Like her other siblings, Slum was raised in a
dysfunctional family that practiced open sex, used drugs, gambled
and treated their home as a hangout for other addicts. Through her
avowed journey in life, it would take Slum 28 years and 11 months,
along with becoming homeless to find the beauty in her slum (mind,
body, soul and surroundings.) she was able to connect, dig out and
remove some of the most scattered and unraveling moments of her
life thanks to the acts of soliloquy, prison and an unlikely fallen
angel along the way. However, before Slum could share her newly
found beauty she has to beat a slew of charges, including breaking
and entering, robbery, murder-and come fourth with secrets that
inadvertently prolonged her vicious life cycle. Slum Beautiful- in
retrospect not only visits the most dangerous place on earth in our
heart's memory, but gives a mind-boggling, touch of retrograde
amnesia exploring the inducement of dysfunction in Slum's family
that includes, molestation, sibling rivalry, systematic dependency,
drug dependency, self hate, cultural hate, racism, and women and
child abuse. Slum Beautiful explores how cycles of injustice begin,
and how they can continue to plague without culminating. Penned
with a poetic pen, conscience mind, and honest heart, Slum
beautiful is the Pangaea of life before the evolution of such
disheartening events, and then some. It is an internal reflection
of yours and mine. Find your beauty, before the wrong hands do.
Without further do, Kenny Attaway presents Slum Beautiful: the
soliloquy of the kandy lady.
Nuthouse Love, the one and only spin off of Kenny Attaway's novel
Slum Beautiful, is a critical, up front; passionate oozing
documented real life experiences of Rasheeda "Sade" Griffin and her
three best friends Mesh, Bay and Nika plight to find true and
meaningful love. But in their plight of finding true love the young
girls' then woman engages in physical, emotional, spiritual,
financial and social abuse shared by themselves, other woman and
the men they become in unisome with. Unluckily throughout the sails
in the winds of love self worth they discover not only the harsh
reality of hurt, pain and agonies of domestic abuse, but they slip
and fall in the egg yolk of their imperfections and insecurities.
Regardless of the unforgettable mishaps of her close friends,
others involved in her life; including supporting confidants
Monica, Mrs. Cent and college friends and herself, she continues
her voyage to the point of no return. Nuthouse not only details the
experiences, trials and tribulations of many of the woman, but the
harsh realism of the black man's fears, misguidance social and
emotional troubles and enigmas as he/their boyfriends take them
through at first hand experience that they'd refer to as the
"nuthouse" and nuthouse love. The "nuthouse" term becomes symbolic
for not only the feelings emerged from type of men the woman date
and become evolved with, but a nickname for an actual place several
of the characters visit in the impatient facility for abused woman
Love Lockdown. Rich in detail, filled with angelic landscapes of
unforgettable real life realities and mournful endings-Nuthouse
Love is a must read.
Hot nickels is a book/ mood prepared as food for thought dishes.
Everyone is welcome to a plate of intrigue, passion, love and shoe
fly pie to dine from along with being a challenge for all to become
better friends, citizens and never forget the essence of the Harlem
Renaissance . Hot nickel.. is needed as much as the HR was in 1920.
Many of the respectable cultures and attributes across the world
are celebrated, however African American culture at times is
overlooked and not fted and embraced. Hot nickel... is not only an
attempt, but a haunting desire to commemorate the thoughts,
lifestyles and food dishes of African Americans poetically. Every
poem, abstract, story and haiku was carved, shaped and written to
stick to the ribs of the mind and soul. Every piece was prepared
for all to nibble, gnaw, sample, eat and digest in hopes of your
mind becoming fat and filling. Hot nickels & kool pennies:
khocolate happi vibin' broken into three to five counterpart/
meanings. The subtitle/restaurant KHV (chocolate was ebonixed and
spelled with a K instead of a C for Kenny (who is the leading chef
of the vibe) and chocolate is the color of the African Americans
people. Chocolate is deep, sweet and rich like the sonnets and
writing of the vibe and designed to make you smile (mentally) as
chocolate does for many. Happy is ebonixed like chocolate and
spelled happi for I needed to emphasize. Happy defines celebration,
triumph, and ending of sorrows and tough situation much like our
lives. Vibe symbolizes the feeling of place and mood when creating
a masterpiece through penmanship -A deep, sweet and rich
celebration of triumph, pain and overcoming feelings of everyday
life in the worlds of all of us.
juici couture & the suga hill gang is a cinematic street tale
of six victims from various regions of the world coming together as
one "the suga hill to get back and retaliate against their
oppressors in ways none of the hood/world would ever forget. Led by
their cold hearted and unforgiving leader Juici Couture and
sidekicks Sweets (Sweet & Low) and others not only go on a
major string of deadly payback, but gets involved in a knee deep of
organized and not so organized crime; including money laundering
racketeering, prostitution, murder and drug smuggling/selling. The
Suga Hill Gang were very successful with first five successful
retaliations on their "oppressors' but the sixth and seventh (and
supposedly last) the gang stumble on the emotions of love verses
hate and the deadly elements that make up HATE/REVENGE; resentment,
a broken heart, confused admirations and misguided secrets that
possibly separate the gang forever. A must read novel on how and
why revenge is never that sweet & how wishing one a better life
than yours is the key to true happiness...
Potholes in my lawn: "the book" finally... was inspired by the
wonderful children I had the honor of producing 50 minute groups
for, for the last five years of my life. The 50 minute therapeutic
groups were supposed to be quick, brief and to the point,
discussing the client's day to day feelings, but of course things
like that get dull quickly for young troubled youth (behaviorally
and emotionally) and for the child at heart therapist who's in
charge of planning, running and illustrating the groups. Over the
course of the last five years I have planned, implemented and
conducted over 700 groups and some were beautiful, some confusing
but all were fun and a learning experience. As time passed my
understanding of a troubled youth's wants and needs became more
understandable. Finally I understood rarely does a child want to
discuss problems on a Monday morning, they would much rather talk
about their weekend and how much fun it was or should have been,
rarely does a child want to hug and greet a person whom he or she
just met. I learned through the course of time, that yes they want
the world to know that they have been hurt, betrayed,
misunderstood, misguided, but that they still want love. They want
to drive over and pass their potholes on the road to success. Over
the last five years I've learned enough to write ten books or more
on giving therapeutic groups alone, but instead I settled on giving
you 182 of the best, most favorite and most needed groups for a
complete school year (of an average 182 day school year), but the
groups where designed to be used at any setting/place for the help
and assistance with adolescents and teens. Many of the most prized
groups I thought of keeping a secret from the rest of the world,
but then thought if the groups were that much of a benefit for the
CARE clients/children that maybe they could possibly aid and assist
the other million plus troubled youth of the world and the
facilitators that sometimes run out of ideas like I did on many
occasions. The groups of "potholes in my lawn" were not only rated
the best and most favorite from the clients, but through
therapeutic observations of the 700 groups, the groups that were
presented were the most effective in helping to change lives.
