Middleware'98 - IFIP International Conference on Distributed Systems Platforms and Open Distributed Processing (Paperback,... Middleware'98 - IFIP International Conference on Distributed Systems Platforms and Open Distributed Processing (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1998)
Nigel Davies, Kerry Raymond, Jochen Seitz
R2,704 Discovery Miles 27 040 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Welcome to Middleware'98 and to one of England's most beautiful regions. In recent years the distributed systems community has witnessed a growth in the number of conferences, leading to difficulties in tracking the literature and a consequent loss of awareness of work done by others in this important field. The aim of Middleware'98 is to synthesise many of the smaller workshops and conferences in this area, bringing together research communities which were becoming fragmented. The conference has been designed to maximise the experience for attendees. This is reflected in the choice of a resort venue (rather than a big city) to ensure a strong focus on interaction with other distributed systems researchers. The programme format incorporates a question-and-answer panel in each session, enabling significant issues to be discussed in the context of related papers and presentations. The invited speakers and tutorials are intended to not only inform the attendees, but also to stimulate discussion and debate.

R1,525 Discovery Miles 15 250 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems, DAIS 2007, held in Paphos, Cyprus in June 2007. The DAIS conference was held as a joint event in federation with the 9th IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems (FMOODS 2007) and the 9th International Conference on Coordination Models and Languages (Coordination 2007).

The 24 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 97 submissions. The papers address current research in context-awareness, adaptation, mobility, distributed applications and peer-to-peer computing, all of which relate to the sustainability of distributed applications and integrated systems. The papers are organized in topical sections on context-awareness, distributed applications, adaptation, peer-to-peer, and mobility.

Presenting Medical Statistics from Proposal to Publication (Paperback, 2nd Revised edition): Janet L. Peacock, Sally M. Kerry,... Presenting Medical Statistics from Proposal to Publication (Paperback, 2nd Revised edition)

As many medical and healthcare researchers have a love-hate relationship with statistics, the second edition of this practical reference book may make all the difference. Using practical examples, mainly from the authors' own research, the book explains how to make sense of statistics, turn statistical computer output into coherent information, and help decide which pieces of information to report and how to present them. The book takes you through all the stages of the research process, from the initial research proposal, through ethical approval and data analysis, to reporting on and publishing the findings. Helpful tips and information boxes, offer clear guidance throughout, including easily followed instructions on how to: -develop a quantitative research proposal for ethical/institutional approval or research funding -write up the statistical aspects of a paper for publication -choose and perform simple and more advanced statistical analyses -describe the statistical methods and present the results of an analysis. This new edition covers a wider range of statistical programs - SAS, STATA, R, and SPSS, and shows the commands needed to obtain the analyses and how to present it, whichever program you are using. Each specific example is annotated to indicate other scenarios that can be analysed using the same methods, allowing you to easily transpose the knowledge gained from the book to your own research. The principles of good presentation are also covered in detail, from translating relevant results into suitable extracts, through to randomised controlled trials, and how to present a meta-analysis. An added ingredient is the inclusion of code and datasets for all analyses shown in the book on our website (http://medical-statistics.info). Written by three experienced biostatisticians based in the UK and US, this is a step-by-step guide that will be invaluable to researchers and postgraduate students in medicine, those working in the professions allied to medicine, and statisticians in consultancy roles.
