There are more than 600 Federal district judges serving today, and they decide some 230,000 civil cases each year. About 90% of the decisions they reach are final. Lyles argues that these lower court judges not only influence the flow of information to the judicial hierarchy, but they formulate questions that influence how higher courts, including the Supreme Court, respond. Israel’s victory in the 1967 ‘Six Day War’ sowed the seeds of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. At 1400hrs on 6 October 1973 the Egyptian army launched an assault crossing of the Suez Canal. The carefully co-ordinated attack achieved complete tactical surprise. The sand embankments of the Israeli Bar-Lev Line were breached and an Israeli counterattack thrown back with heavy losses. In the second of his two-volume analysis of the Yom Kippur War, Simon Dunstan details the fighting in the Sinai, culminating in Operation Gazelle, the Israeli counterattack across the Suez Canal. Although defeated militarily Egypt did ultimately succeed in forcing the Israelis back to the negotiating table.

This work focuses on the experience, tactics, training and weapons of the British soldier from the Fall of Malaya and Singapore until the Reconquest of Burma. It covers jungle warfare training in India and the ensuing action in Burma, tracing the development of tactics and doctrine: this formed the basis for the victories in the Arakan and the battles of Kohima and Imphal. Uniforms, equipment and weapons developed for jungle warfare are all covered. Other aspects such as the soldier's view of India, the entertainment available on leave, food rationing and other supplies such as cigarettes, the introduction of the forces newspaper SEAC, and the medical problems of malaria are covered.

The beaches codenamed Gold and Juno constituted the western section of the British sector of the landings. This title explores the D-Day objectives for the troops landing on these two beaches, which included the capture of the town of Arromanches. They were also tasked with the capture of Bayeux and securing the coast road between Bayeux and Caen. The British 50th Division supported by 8th Armoured Brigade successfully fought their way off Gold, whilst the Canadians on Juno has a tougher time. It could not however prevent the linking of Gold, Juno and Sword on 7 June securing the British beachhead. The breakout could now begin.
