In this comprehensive anthology, twenty-seven outstanding scholars
from North America and Europe address every major aspect of Thomas
Aquinas' understanding of morality and comment on his remarkable
legacy. While there has been a revival of interest in recent years
in the ethics of St. Thomas, no single work has yet fully examined
the basic moral arguments and content of Aquinas' major moral work,
the Second Part of "The Summa Theologiae". This work fills that
lacuna. The first chapters of "The Ethics of Aquinas" introduce
readers to the sources, methods, and major themes of Aquinas'
ethics. The second part of this book provides an extended
discussion of ideas in the Second Part of "The Summa Theologiae",
in which contributors present cogent interpretations of the
structure, major arguments, and themes of each of the treatises.
The third and final part examines aspects of Thomistic ethics in
the twentieth century and beyond. These essays reflect a diverse
group of scholars representing a variety of intellectual
perspectives. Contributors span numerous fields of study, including
intellectual history, medieval studies, moral philosophy, religious
ethics, and moral theology. This remarkable variety underscores how
interpretations of Thomas' ethics continue to develop and evolve -
and stimulate fervent discussion within the academy and the church.
This volume is aimed at scholars, students, clergy, and all those
who continue to find Aquinas a rich source of moral insight.
"Lithium-Ion Batteries Hazard and Use Assessment "examines the
usage of lithium-ion batteries and cells within consumer,
industrial and transportation products, and analyzes the potential
hazards associated with their prolonged use. This book also surveys
the applicable codes and standards for lithium-ion technology.
"Lithium-Ion Batteries Hazard and Use Assessment "is designed
for practitioners as a reference guide for lithium-ion batteries
and cells. Researchers working in a related field will also find
the book valuable.
Challenging traditional conceptions and providing a new critical perspective, the authors provide a comprehensive historical record of inequality in Australia, and show how that account no longer adequately explains the new and different forms of inequality. As Australian society has changed, they argue, new forms of inequality have emerged, influencing the country's experience of identity, embodiment and politics. The book presents a critical overview of contemporary inequality suitable for undergraduates.

"An accessible and highly readable introduction to the Sociology of
Health and Illness through the inclusion of key theorists,
concepts, and theories, with reference to contemporary health
concerns and recent relevant research." - Kylie Baldwin, De
Montfort University "Guides us through the many reasons for the
centrality of health, showing clearly that health and illness are
the products not just of our biology but of the society into which
we are born...an authoritative analysis of the social nature of
health." - Ray Fitzpatrick, University of Oxford This bestselling
text introduces students to the core principles of the sociology of
health, demonstrating the relationship between social structures
and the production and distribution of health and disease in modern
society. Written with a truly sociological and critical
perspective, the book tackles themes such as class, gender and
ethnicity, and engages with a range of theories and theorists,
including Foucault, Fleck, Parsons, Weber, and Kuhn. The third
edition has been thoroughly updated to include the latest
cutting-edge thinking in the area, with new empirical examples,
updated references, and new sections on 'Thought Styles after
Fleck', and 'Transformations of the Medical Profession.' It also
uses helpful learning features including chapter overviews, case
studies, summaries and further reading suggestions, to provide
stimulating and thought-provoking exercises for students in health,
nursing and sociology schools.
This volume presents 15 studies occasioned by the 500th anniversary
of the European discovery of America. It covers both the initial
encounters between the Europeans and native Americans and the
golden age of Hispanic philosophy that followed the discovery -
specifically between 1500 and 1650.
