This Research Handbook is a multi-faceted, comparative analysis of
how law and political systems interact around the world. Chapters
include analyses of judicial deference, congressional support,
democratic representation, politicization of courts, public
support, and judicialization across multiple jurisdictions in the
United States and abroad. Chapters also investigate transnational
courts and the linkages between international and domestic law and
politics. Addressing these relationships from a comparative
perspective, the Handbook illustrates how different political
contexts lead to different uses of law and how courts respond to
divergent political environments. An impressive array of
contributors, and the editors, examine law and political systems on
a global scale through either country-specific analyses,
comparative analyses, or the examination of transnational
institutions. Scholars interested in law and courts, judicial
politics, the rule of law, and governance will find this Research
Handbook to be a valuable resource. It will provide a helpful
foundation for advanced students of both political science and law
and will be a useful reference tool for judges and those operating
in a judicial or political sphere.

Action movie in which a pair of unlikely heroes find themselves at
the heart of the struggle to save Earth from a fateful collision
with the planet Mercury. When the Sun briefly magnetises and throws
Mercury out of orbit, experts are horrified to discover the result
of the mishap: Mercury is now on a collision course with Earth.
Scientist James (Kirk Acevedo) believes he may have a way of
deflecting Mercury from its apocalyptic course, but struggles to
get his ideas heard due to previous issues with the weapon system
he thinks has the capacity to save the day. However, with help from
Victoria (Diane Farr), the sole surviving crew member of a space
shuttle in Mercury's orbit, James may yet have the chance to make
himself a hero.
A remote Highland castle. A dark and stormy night. A murder most
haunting. It’s Halloween, and when a reclusive billionaire is
discovered dead in his study at McQuarrie Hall - a 14th century
castle turned stately hotel - DCI Jack Logan and his team must race
the worsening weather to get to the scene of the crime. There,
among the victim’s extended family and staff, Jack finds no
shortage of suspects. Everyone, it seems, had reason to want the
old man dead, and they all have something to hide. Cut off from
back-up and forensic support by the worst storm in decades, and
with the cast and crew of a TV ghost hunting show seriously
cramping his style, Jack’s only chance of solving his latest case
is by going back to basics. But the castle’s residents won’t
give him a minute to think. Not even the dead ones... A Dead Man
Walking is the 18th book in the number-one- bestselling DCI Jack
Logan series from author, JD Kirk, perfect for fans of Ian Rankin,
Stuart MacBride, and Chris Brookmyre.
Published to mark the 400th anniversary of the book's original
publication, this facsimile edition faithfully reproduces one of
the finest copies held in the British Library collections. The
significance of the First Folio cannot be underestimated. It is the
only contemporary source of eighteen of Shakespeare's plays.
Without it, performances of such popular plays as The Tempest,
Twelfth Night and Macbeth would not be possible. Changes and
corrections were made during the long printing process. Small
alterations were also made to the (now iconic) portrait of
Shakespeare created by Martin Droeshout for the title page. As a
result, no two surviving copies of the First Folio are identical
and few are complete. Of the 750 copies that were originally
published, some 200 exist today. The British Library has five
copies, one of which is complete, and it is this copy that is
presented with an introductory booklet by curators Adrian S Edwards
and Tanya Kirk.
Six months ago, a girl vanished. Now, it's happening again. When
the body of a teenager is discovered near Eilean Donan Castle
several months after she disappeared, DCI Jack Logan and his team
journey across the Highlands to investigate. As they start to
unpick the young woman's life, the secrets and lies they expose
soon threaten to tear the small, rural community apart. But, when a
second girl goes missing in similar circumstances, it isn't just a
murder investigation that Jack finds himself running. It's a race
against time. Here Lie the Dead is the 15th book in the
multi-million selling DCI Jack Logan series from Scottish crime
author, JD Kirk.
