The yearning for historical justice - that is, for the redress of past wrongs - has become one of the defining features of our age. Governments, international bodies and civil society organisations address historical injustices through truth commissions, tribunals, official apologies and other transitional justice measures. Historians produce knowledge of past human rights violations, and museums, memorials and commemorative ceremonies try to keep that knowledge alive and remember the victims of injustices. In this book, researchers with a background in history, archaeology, cultural studies, literary studies and sociology explore the various attempts to recover and remember the past as a means of addressing historic wrongs. A survey of the state of the art of deterministic resource-constrained project scheduling with time windows. General temporal constraints and several different types of limited resources are considered. A large variety of time-based, financial, and resource-based objectives - important in practice - are studied. A thorough structural analysis of the feasible region of project scheduling problems and a classification and detailed investigation of objective functions are performed, which can be exploited for developing efficient exact and heuristic solution methods. New interesting applications of project scheduling to production and operations management as well as investment projects are discussed in the second edition.

Project planning, scheduling, and control are regularly used in business and the service sector of an economy to accomplish outcomes with limited resources under critical time constraints. To aid in solving these problems, network-based planning methods have been developed that now exist in a wide variety of forms, cf. Elmaghraby (1977) and Moder et al. (1983). The so-called "classical" project networks, which are used in the network techniques CPM and PERT and which represent acyclic weighted directed graphs, are able to describe only projects whose evolution in time is uniquely specified in advance. Here every event of the project is realized exactly once during a single project execution and it is not possible to return to activities previously carried out (that is, no feedback is permitted). Many practical projects, however, do not meet those conditions. Consider, for example, a production process where some parts produced by a machine may be poorly manufactured. If an inspection shows that a part does not conform to certain specifications, it must be repaired or replaced by a new item. This means that we have to return to a preceding stage of the production process. In other words, there is feedback. Note that the result of the inspection is that a certain percentage of the parts tested do not conform. That is, there is a positive probability (strictly less than 1) that any part is defective.

It is already a tradition that conferences on operations research are organized by the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut in Oberwolfach/Germany. The mean point of the 1987 conference was to discuss recentl.v developed methods in optimization theory derived from various fields of mathematics. On the other hand, the practical use of results in operations research is very important. In the last few years* essenti.al progress in this direction was made at the International Insti- tute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) at Laxenburg/Austria. Therefore a three days workshop on Advanced Computation Techniques, Parallel Processing and Optimi- zation organized by IIASA and the University of Karlsruhe immediately followed the Oberwolfach Conference. Ausgehend vom Musikvideo als Paradigma audiovisueller Kompositionalitat, widmet sich der Band grundsatzlich relevanten Dimensionen der Transkription von Videodaten sowie insbesondere der Spezifik von Medienproduktanalysen. Im Fokus steht das neuentwickelte Analyseinstrument "trAVis." Hierbei handelt es sich um ein musikzentriertes Transkriptionsprogramm fur audiovisuelle Medienprodukte, das als frei zugangliche Web-Applikation konzipiert ist. Anhand einer umfassenden Fallanalyse wird aufgezeigt, dass "trAVis" eine gegenstandsangemessene Analyse musikbasierter Audiovisionsformate ermoglicht. Forschungsstrategisch betrachtet, ist das Programm darauf angelegt, bildbezogene und texthermeneutische Ansatze mit musikwissenschaftlichen Zugangen zu verbinden."

Operations Research (im weiteren abgeklirzt OR) ist ein komplexes, interdisziplinares Fachgebiet. Alle seine Spezialgebiete beschaftigen sich mit der Losung von Entscheidungsproblemen in der Realitat. Dabei werden je nach Problemstellung adaquate Modelle und Methoden angewendet, die zur Informationsgewinnung, Problemstrukturierung, exakten oder naherungsweisen Berechnungen, bzw. besseren -Transparenz der Realitat beitragen. Das vorliegende Projekt, Femsehwerbung und Kinder" steht gegenw1irtig sicherlich nicht allein in der entsprechenden nationalen und intemationalen Forschungslandschaft. Es ist jedoch fiberraschend, feststellen zu mfissen, daB die Projekte zum Thema "audio-visuelle Werbung und Kinder" recht spiirlich gesat sind. Dies muB irritieren, da die WerbeaktiviHiten der Wirtschaft auf dem Medien- und Konsummarkt fUr Kinder fiber die Jahre hinweg sHindig zugenommen haben, die kommerzielle "Begleitforschung" ebenfalls expan- dierte, wamend die sozialwissenschaftliche Grundlagenforschung mit dieser Entwicklung nicht Schritt gehalten hat. Dies ist zu konstatieren mit Blick auf die intemationale Diskussion, folgt man beispielsweise den AusfUhrungen von Kline (1991), aber auch mit Blick auf die nationale Diskussion: Nach langen Jahren der "Latenz" erschien erst wieder 1993 ein groBeres wissenschaftliches Gutachten unter dem Titel "Kin- der und Werbung" (Baacke, Sander & Vollbrecht, 1993). Dieses Gutachten ist als ein umfassendes einzuschatzen, in dem es den Autoren darum geht, den aktuellen Forschungsstand zu dokumentieren. Sie tun dies mit dem er- kl1irten Ziel, Forschungsdesiderate aufzuzeigen. Es wird in den AusfUhrungen daffir votiert, die traditionelle Stimulus- Response-Wirkungsforschung aufzugeben: Die Konzentration auf den Ein- zelspot und des sen kausale Wirkungen auf Kinder sei angesichts einer veriin- derten Lebenswelt der Kinder, aber auch angesichts neuerer Entwicklungen in der wissenschaftlichen Forschung obsolet geworden. Erstens habe sic- so die These - eine Entwicklung eingestellt, die auf eine AlIgegenw1irtigkeit und vor allem auch Unabgrenzbarkeit von Werbung fUr Kinder hinauslaufe.

Die Untersuchung "Kinder und Werbung" gilt dem Beziehungsgeflecht zwi l schen Kindem und ihren Eltem sowie den Medien und den Werbetreiben den. Kinder werden schon sehr friih in ihrer Entwicklung von Dritten und der Allgemeinheit beeinfluGt. Der Begriff "Miterzieher"2 charakterisiert die so zialen Umstande und Personen, die neben den Eltem auf die Entwicklung der Kinder einwirken, auf umfassende Weise. Zwar sind darnit auch Einfliisse gemeint, die rnitnichten erzieherische (padagogische) Qualitat haben. Die umfassende Definition zeigt jedoch deutlich die Komplexitat des Gesamtge 3 unterscheidet z. B. private (Verwandtschaft, Freundeskreis, Nach flechts. Zacher barschaft u. a. ), gesellschaftliche (Medien, Vereine, Konsumangebot, Wer bung u. a. ) sowie im spezifischen Sinne Offentliche (Bildungseinrichtungen, Bibliotheken, Museen u. a. ) "Miterzieher" und fiigt gelegentliche (A. rzte u. a. ) "Erzieher" hinzu. Die Komplexitat dieser Beziehungen wird noch durch fort wahrende Veranderungen der sozialen, farnilienintemen wie -extemen, Ver 4 haltnisse erhOht. Aus diesem Feld wird ein Untersuchungsgegenstand herausgelOst, der sich in der medienpolitischen Diskussion schon immer groBer Beliebtheit erfreut hat.
