This book presents a vivid and close-up view of social science researchers engaged in fieldwork, in discussions with colleagues, and in writing. Adopting an ethnographic approach inspired by ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, the author pursues a praxeological analysis of social inquiry in situ. By conceiving of analytical practices such as observation, shop talk, and conceptualization in experiential terms, the seen but unnoticed structures of knowledge work are exposed and made available for empirical analysis. Dieser Herausgeberband hat seinen Ursprung auf der Suche nach Beschreibungen und Dimensionen von komplexen regionalen und sozialraumlichen Entwicklungen. Ausgangspunkt bildete eine Ringvorlesung, die von den beiden Herausgeberinnen, sowie einigen der Autorinnen und Autoren des Bandes organisiert wurde. Als ub- geordnetes Ziel und auch als 'roter Faden' dieses Buches kristallisierte sich dabei eine Sensibilisierung fur die Komplexitat derartiger Dynamiken heraus. Das Projekt stellte uns von Anfang an vor die Herausforderung, unter vielen moeg- chen, relevanten, notwendigen und wichtigen Themen und Phanomenen eine A- wahl zu treffen sowie dabei gleichzeitig die ubergeordnete Frage im Augen zu - halten - Guggenheim in Bilbao, Ruhrgebiet als Kulturhauptstadt 2010, Autostadt Wolfsburg, MARTa in Herford, die geplante Stadt Brasilia, Industriedistrict Silicon Valley, Europa der Regionen, schrumpfende Stadte in Ostdeutschland, geeinte (?) Stadtidentitat Berlin; Lokalkulturen, Landschaftsraume, Bildungs- und Sozi- geographie, Regional- und Kommunalpolitik, Wissensgesellschaft, Wirtschaftsr- me, weiche Standortfaktoren, mediale Konstruktionen, oeffentlicher Raum. Auf dem Weg von der Ringvorlesung zu dem nun vorliegenden Sammelband trugen zahlreiche Menschen dazu bei, den Diskurs zu beleben. Diese fanden zwar nicht alle den Weg als Autoren in dieses Buch, leisteten aber dennoch einen Beitrag dazu. Besonders bedauern wir, dass dabei dem Ruhrgebiet, als groesster deutscher Region mit 'Komplex' kein eigener Artikel gewidmet wurde und dass eine unt- nehmerische Perspektive allenfalls implizit in diesen Band Eingang gefunden hat.
