This book focuses on the experiences of temporary movements between
Asia and Europe from the perspective of migrants and mobile people.
It raises important questions such as: Why do people migrate on a
temporary basis and what does this actually mean? How are these
trajectories shaped? What are the implications of temporary moves
for migrants and non-migrants? And how are transnational ties and
practices characterized in the context of temporary migration? By
shedding light on the practices and experiences of individual
migrants, the book provides useful insights into understanding the
challenges arising in an increasingly interconnected and mobile
world. The chapters indicate that temporary migratory movements are
on the rise: on the one hand on a voluntary basis such as reflected
in labour migration, lifestyle migration and international student
mobility, and on the other hand in an involuntary way as expressed
in different forms of forced migration. Either way, temporary
migration has diverse political. legal, economic, social and
cultural implications, including the emergence of novel
transnational networks and practices. The book is based on the
findings of the international research project Transnational
Migration in Transition: Transformative Characteristics of
Temporary Mobility of People (EURA-NET), funded by the European
Union's 7th Framework Programme for period 2014-2017.
In this book, the context and process of globalization are
understood as a complex web of increasingly deepening
interrelationships among countries, organizations, social groups,
and individuals. Information and communication technologies (ICTs)
are seen as a vital part of the globalization agenda.
As technology becomes more pervasive and capable, there is a danger
that the debate will remain anchored on techno-centric issues such
as what to use the technology for, or how to make it work.
Organizational Information Systems in the Context of Globalization
provides rich insights on how global technology in action must be
considered in view of local expectations and constraints. This is
particularly relevant in the current discourse relating technology
to development - the theme permeating most of the works included in
this volume.
Research reported in this book achieves a number of important
objectives. It illustrates local ICT utilization and policy
development contexts that are not as frequently examined as North
American and Western European corporate contexts. Empirical
research reported in this volume has been conducted in the
following national, regional and local contexts: Australia
(including aboriginal communities), Brazil, China, Ecuador, Egypt,
India, Ireland, Jordan, Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Mozambique, New
Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Scandinavia, Spain, South Africa,
UK and USA.
Organizational Information Systems in the Context of Globalization
exemplifies the role of social theory in approaching ICT
utilization challenges in a globalization context. The debates
raised on implementation, policy, organizations and organizing, and
social dynamics, increase our awareness of the diversity of
perspectives we need to delve into when framing the role of ICTs in
the globalization agenda. The equal representation of managerial
and non-managerial decision making contexts alerts us to the fact
that ICTs should not be considered only as a corporate wealth
creation prerogative.

Organizational Information Systems in the Context of Globalization
is essential reading for researchers and practitioners working in
information systems, management, social and organizational studies,
and development studies.
This book offers a collection of information on successive steps of
molecular 'dialogue' between plants and pathogens. It additionally
presents data that reflects intrinsic logic of plant-parasite
interactions. New findings discussed include: host and non-host
resistance, specific and nonspecific elicitors, elicitors and
suppressors, and plant and animal immunity. This book enables the
reader to understand how to promote or prevent disease development,
and allows them to systematize their own ideas of plant-pathogen
interactions.
* Offers a more extensive scope of the problem as compared to other
books in the market
* Presents data to allow consideration of host-parasite
relationships in dynamics and reveals interrelations between
pathogenicity and resistance factors
* Discusses beneficial plant-microbe interactions and practical
aspects of molecular investigations of plant-parasite
relationships
* Compares historical study of common and specific features of
plant immunity with animal immunity
'One of the great mythic poems of Europe' The New York Times
Sharing its title with the poetic name for Finland - 'the land of
heroes' - Kalevala is the soaring epic poem of its people, a work
rich in magic and myth which tells the story of a nation through
the ages from the dawn of creation. Sung by rural Finns since
prehistoric times, and formally compiled by Elias Loennrot in the
nineteenth century, it is a landmark of Finnish culture and played
a vital role in galvanizing its national identity in the decades
leading to independence. Its themes, however, reach beyond borders
and search the heart of human existence. Translated with an

A newly updated and expanded edition that combines theory and
applications of turbomachinery while covering several different
types of turbomachinery In mechanical engineering, turbomachinery
describes machines that transfer energy between a rotor and a
fluid, including turbines, compressors, and pumps. Aiming for a
unified treatment of the subject matter, with consistent notation
and concepts, this new edition of a highly popular book provides
all new information on turbomachinery, and includes 50% more
exercises than the previous edition. It allows readers to easily
move from a study of the most successful textbooks on
thermodynamics and fluid dynamics to the subject of turbomachinery.
The book also builds concepts systematically as progress is made
through each chapter so that the user can progress at their own
pace. Principles of Turbomachinery, 2nd Edition provides
comprehensive coverage of everything readers need to know,
including chapters on: thermodynamics, compressible flow, and
principles of turbomachinery analysis. The book also looks at steam
turbines, axial turbines, axial compressors, centrifugal
compressors and pumps, radial inflow turbines, hydraulic turbines,
hydraulic transmission of power, and wind turbines. New chapters on
droplet laden flows of steam and oblique shocks help make this an
incredibly current and well-rounded resource for students and
practicing engineers. Includes 50% more exercises than the previous
edition Uses MATLAB or GNU/OCTAVE for all the examples and
exercises for which computer calculations are needed, including
those for steam Allows for a smooth transition from the study of
thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer to the subject of
turbomachinery for students and professionals Organizes content so
that more difficult material is left to the later sections of each
chapter, allowing instructors to customize and tailor their courses
for their students Principles of Turbomachinery is an excellent
book for students and professionals in mechanical, chemical, and
aeronautical engineering.

Fundamentally, computers just deal with numbers. They store letters
and other characters by assigning a number for each one. There are
hundreds of different encoding systems for mapping characters to
numbers, but Unicode promises a single mapping. Unicode enables a
single software product or website to be targeted across multiple
platforms, languages and countries without re-engineering. It's no
wonder that industry giants like Apple, Hewlett-Packard, IBM
andMicrosoft have all adopted Unicode.
Containing everything you need to understand Unicode, this
comprehensive reference from O'Reilly takes you on a detailed guide
through the complex character world. For starters, it explains how
to identify and classify characters - whether they're common,
uncommon, or exotic. It then shows you how to type them, utilize
their properties, and process character data in a robust
manner.
The book is broken up into three distinct parts. The first few
chapters provide you with a tutorial presentation of Unicode and
character data. It gives you a firm grasp of the terminology you
need to reference various components, including character sets,
fonts and encodings, glyphs and character repertoires.
The middle section offers more detailed information about using
Unicode and other character codes. It explains the principles and
methods of defining character codes, describes some of the widely
used codes, and presents code conversion techniques. It also
discusses properties of characters, collation and sorting, line
breaking rules and Unicode encodings. The final four chapters cover
more advanced material, such as programming to support Unicode.
You simply can't afford to be without thenuggets of valuable
information detailed in "Unicode Explained,"
Filling a gap in the literature on communities, this innovative and
critical volume proposes the concept of Cocoon Communities. Cocoon
communities are highly significant for its members and yet not
binding. Membership is voluntary and informal. Weaving together
interdisciplinary perspectives, the contributors offer theoretical
perspectives and research findings on communities of international
students, online mourners, farmworkers, expatriates, and
`Westerners' in India. The volume will be of great interest to
scholars and students in anthropology, education, social psychology
and sociology.
