The book is truly meant to be an introduction to understanding our
own humanity. It deals with changing your perspective in order to
see your mentality for what it is... you. The idea is to change
your view before you try and change anything else, including
yourself, because only then can you see that there is more to
everything than what you assumed. We can and do assume what is
important. But what if there is a lot more to us than our
assumptions? The second book picks up where this one leaves off and
discusses our humanity in depth. But that all important ability of
ours to see our presumptuous nature, and deal with it honestly, has
to exist before ever realizing what else is there.
