Sean Steddy, an introverted high school student, is struggling to find the meaning in life. His parents are on the brink of divorce, and he is helping to support the household with his after-school job working at Strata call center. When the new neighbors arrive, Sean discovers their daughter, Lucille Lange, a deaf girl with an affinity for academics. The two of them become best friends, and eventually more. Heather Piddy, Sean's stalker, finds out about their relationship and becomes obsessed. Lucille introduces a writing contest to Sean, which could potentially pay his college tuition. Things get twisted as the love triangle tightens and the deadline draws closer.
