Haiku ist eine jahrhunderte alte japanische Gedichtform, eine Naturlyrik in ihrer hochst verdichteten" Form auf drei Zeilen ohne Reim. Die gehaltvollen Kurzgedichte sind mittlerweile weltweit und somit auch im deutschen Sprachraum gut etabliert. Ich habe mich im vorliegenden Werk an die bei uns herkommliche Art der Silbenregel (1. Zeile: funf Silben, 2. Zeile: sieben Silben, 3. Zeile: funf Silben) gehalten und dies im Vorwort ausreichend begrundet. Die traditionellen Sujets fur die Gedichte behandeln hauptsachlich den jahreszeitlichen Wandel in meinem heimatlichen oberosterreichischen Hugelland nordlich der Donau, sowie die heimische Tier- und Pflanzenwelt in ihrem naturlichen Verhalten und ihrer Umwelt. Weiter enthalt das Buch ein Kapitel Personliches" ( Senryu"), bei dem der Mensch im Vordergrund steht. Im Haiku-Stil werden Themen aus dem Alltagsleben, dem familiaren und sozialen Umfeld des Autors beleuchtet. Zur Ausschmuckung finden sich eingestreute, selbst verfertigte Bild-Gedichte ( Haiga") als Zeichnungen (mit Tuschepinsel oder Kohlestift) und Fotos. Diese, wie auch die eigene japanische Kalligrafie ( Shodo"), sollen das Auge zum Verweilen und den Geist zum Entschweben einladen. Naturlyrik allgemein und Haiku im Besonderen helfen bei der Entschleunigung und bei der Besinnung auf das Wesentliche im Leben. Wenn dann statt des Fernsehers die Leselampe abends eingeschaltet und ein gutes Buch aufgeschlagen wird, kann das Denken und Fuhlen wieder im eigenen Gehirn und nicht ausgelagert an ein banales Unterhaltungs- oder Computerprogramm, stattfinden. Durch die Synthese von meinen klassischen Haiku-Gedichten in Worten mit japanischer Kalligrafie und Bildern aus einer Hand ist etwas - meines Wissens - ganz Neues im deutschen Sprachraum entstanden. Wegen der leichten Lesbarkeit ist das Buch auch bestens fur Haiku- und Lyrik-Einsteiger geeignet.

W hrend eines Malaria-Anfalls in Sambia 1988 kam mir die Idee der Aufarbeitung meiner Eindr cke in lyrischer Form. Der Rest der Gedichte folgte sp ter. Jedesmal vor gr eren Reisen, bzw. bersiedlungen, z.B nach Brasilien oder in asiatische L nder. Nachhaltig machte sich meine Bekanntschaft mit japanischer Dichtkunst und indischem Yoga bemerkbar.
