This book examines the increasing intersections of art and
parenting from the late 1990s to the early 2010s, when
constructions of masculine and feminine identities, as well as the
structure of the family, underwent radical change. Barbara Kutis
asserts that the championing of the simultaneous linkage of art and
parenting by contemporary artists reflects a conscientious
self-fashioning of a new kind of identity, one that she calls the
'artist-parent.' By examining the work of three artists-Guy
Ben-Ner, Elzbieta Jablonska, and the collective Mothers and
Fathers- this book reveals how these artists have engaged with the
domestic and personal in order to articulate larger issues of
parenting in contemporary life. This book will be of interest to
scholars in art and gender, gender studies, contemporary art, and
art history.
It is almost twenty years ago since under Nutricia's auspices the
first Nutricia Symposium took place. Professor Jonxis was mainly
responsible for the organiza tion of the earlier symposia, whilst
Professor Visser organized the fifth Nutricia Symposium in 1978.
This book is the commitment to paper of the lectures given during
the sixth Nutricia/Cow & Gate Symposium held in Louvain in
1983. Both Professor Eeckels and Professor Ransome-Kuti succeeded
in collecting a panel of experts on 'Child Health in the Tropics'.
We hope, in fact we are sure, that you will consider the contents
of this book a daily stimulation in your medical profession.

'From that very first minute I sin 'im - strung up by his feet and
howling - oh I certainly knew we had business all right.' A
haunting play about loss and grief, set in the mists of Suffolk.
Fishskin Trousers weaves together the haunting tales of three lost
people from different eras, united by the common setting of the
fishing village of Orford in Suffolk, its castle and its mysterious
island, Orford Ness. From the twelfth century, Mab gives an
eyewitness account of the legendary Wild Man of Orford, caught in
the nets of fishermen... Eight hundred years later, at the height
of the Cold War, Ben, a young Australian scientist, hears strange
noises on the Ness as he tries to fix the island's radar system.
While Mog, in 2003, is faced with a heartbreaking decision...
Suffused by the landscape and traditional folk tales of East
Anglia, their echoing voices and stories reveal how deeply and
intimately their lives touch each other, though decades - and even
centuries - separate them. Elizabeth Kuti's Fishskin Trousers
premiered at the Finborough Theatre, London, in 2013, and was
revived at Park Theatre, London, in October 2017. This volume also
contains the short plays Enter A Gentleman and Time Spent on
Trains.
James Robert Freels Jr., (Bob) along with his girlfriend, Maureen
Wilkin, on June 21,1985 abducted my eight year old grandson, Jimmy.
It wasn't until June 30, 1985 that the abduction was realized
because Jimmy was supposedly on vacation with his father. Deborah
(Debbie) Freels, my daughter, and Bob had been separated for almost
a year. Debbie had custody of their two children, Jimmy, age eight
and Dawn, age twelve. After eight months of searching, the trail
led to Guatemala, Central America. If it weren't for strangers and
incredible luck, the search would not have been successful. The
last month was spent by me in Guatemala, which I described in my
notes as "30 Days of Hell." This is a true story of my experiences.
A new play from an award-winning playwright, published as part of
the innovative Abbey Theatre playscript series On the day of her
father's funeral, Eva - a young woman - is still haunted by the
betrayal she witnessed from her childhood haven - the treehouse in
the garden. On the same day another woman, Magda, relives the
ghosts of another hiding place and a different betrayal - ghosts
from which she still seeks forgiveness. Interweaving lives and
secrets Treehouses is a magical tale of refuge, treachery and of
love lost and found.
Eastern European societies underwent large-scale deprivations of
property by the authoritarian regimes, beginning after World War
II, largely ending with the last waves of the kolkhoz movement in
the early 1960s. Kuti examines property reparations that took place
after 1989, from the perspective of constitutional justice, the
rule of law, but also from the point of view of identity politics.
A controversial and at times contentious issue is tackled here,
effecting people's lives and material situations drastically whilst
touching upon the raw nerves of history. Kuti compares property
restitution schemes in the Baltic States, Poland, Germany, Czech
Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Argues that the aims of
compensation and reparation were coupled with goals of structural
reform. Provides an international perspective, through extensive
reference to the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human
Rights, as well as to some other jurisdictions confronted with
indigenous peoples' claims. The inquiry concludes that the ideals
of rule of law and justice cannot lead to consistent solutions in
this problem, and the presence of an imperfect theorization is
demonstrated.
An emotionally involving family play that evokes the poignancy and
the poison of the festive season - from the award-winning writer of
The Sugar Wife. A small town in the south east of England. Eddie
returns home for a peaceful family Christmas for the first time in
many years. But neither he nor his parents can forget or forgive
themselves for the death of their other son, Richard, and the
unanswered questions that surround it. But not for much longer - it
seems that Richard had secrets that are about to erupt into their
lives. Dormant conflicts begin to surface as Eddie's family are
confronted with the ghosts of Christmases past - along with some
unwelcome revelations about the present. Elizabeth Kuti's play The
Six-Days World was first staged at the Finborough Theatre, London,
in 2007.
