What kinds of work will be available in the 1980s? For whom? When
should a person retire? Should a retiree find a part-time job? The
authors answer such questions by examining a multitude of factors
that will affect work decisions in the coming decade. Their
findings will alert decision-makers in both private organizations
and the government to the employment issues that dominate the
1980s.
This book guides the reader through the process of creating
evidence-based therapy groups for children. Introducing an
interpersonal theoretical framework that maximizes the
interactional and experiential learning and growth components of
groups with children, this curriculum offers the child group
therapist a theoretical foundation that gives structure to existing
techniques and an approach that is multiculturally sensitive and
grounded in brain science. A deeper understanding of the mechanisms
of change that operate in children’s groups is central to the
theme, including an emphasis on play and "learning by doing"
through real-life clinical examples which permit readers of all
levels to achieve a better understanding of how child groups
function. Readers of this book will come away with a deeper
understanding of the "power cell" of group therapy: working
interpersonally in the here and now, specifically with children.

The Life of Margaret Alice Murray: A Woman's Work in Archaeology is
the first book-length biography of Margaret Alice Murray
(1863-1963), one of the first women to practice archeology. Despite
Murray's numerous professional successes, her career has received
little attention because she has been overshadowed by her mentor,
Sir Flinders Petrie. This oversight has obscured the significance
of her career including her fieldwork, the students she trained,
her administration of the pioneering Egyptology Department at
University College London (UCL), and her published works. Rather
than focusing on Murray's involvement in Petrie's archaeological
program, Kathleen L. Sheppard treats Murray as a practicing
scientist with theories, ideas, and accomplishments of her own.
This book analyzes the life and career of Margaret Alice Murray as
a teacher, excavator, scholar, and popularizer of Egyptology,
archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, and more. Sheppard also
analyzes areas outside of Murray's archaeology career, including
her involvement in the suffrage movement, her work in folklore and
witchcraft studies, and her life after her official retirement from
UCL.
A groundswell of interest has led to significant advances in
understanding and using Culturally Responsive Arts Education to
promote social justice and education. This landmark volume provides
a theoretical orientation to these endeavors. Examining a range of
efforts across different forms of art, various educational
settings, and diverse contexts, it foregrounds the assets of
imagination, creativity, resilience, critique and cultural
knowledge, working against prevailing understandings of
marginalized groups as having deficits of knowledge, skills, or
culture. Emphasizing the arts as a way to make something possible,
it explores and illustrates the elements of social justice arts
education as "a way out of no way" imposed by dominance and
ideology. A set of powerful demonstrations shows how this work
looks in action. Introductions to the book as a whole and to each
section focus on how to use the chapters pedagogically. The
conclusion pulls back the chapters into theoretical and pedagogical
context and suggests what needs done to be done practically,
empirically, and theoretically, for the field to continue to
develop.
