Fantasy adventure directed by Sam Raimi. Acting as a prequel to the much-loved classic 'The Wizard of Oz' (1939), the film explores how the titular hero, Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a largely unsuccessful circus magician in Kansas, may have found his way to the Land of Oz and his early days in the magical realm. Seeing his new home as a world of opportunity, Oz firmly believes his luck has changed for the better when he is introduced to three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who suggest that he is destined for greatness beyond his imagination. However, before Oscar can realise his true potential, he must journey through Oz and come face-to-face with the problems that haunt the fantastic land.

There are two full-length versions of The Wizard of Oz: MUNY and RSC. Both include the songs "Over The Rainbow," "Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead)," "If I Only Had A Brain/A Heart/The Nerve," "We're Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road)," "The Jitterbug," and "The Merry Old Land of Oz." The MUNY version also has "Evening Star." The RSC version also includes "Poppies (Optimistic Voices)" and "If I Were King Of The Forest." This RSC version is a more faithful adaptation of the film. A more technically complex production, it recreates the dialogue and structure of the MGM classic nearly scene for scene, though it is adapted for live stage performance. The RSC version's musical material also provides more work for the SATB chorus and small vocal ensembles. The MUNY Version is more theatrically conservative, employing its stage, actors, singers, dancers, and musicians in traditional ways. Using L. Frank Baum's book - and not the MGM film - as its inspiration, this version employs story and songs as elements of a classic stage musical, adding a bit more humor to the witch and her cronies. The MUNY version does not include Toto, but instead adds new characters, including: Farmhand Joe, Gloria of Oz, Lord Growlie, Tibia (the witch's skeletal assistant), two comical neighboring witches, and the Royal Army of Oz.

The Lost Princess of Oz (1917) is the eleventh novel in L. Frank Baum's beloved Land of Oz series. According to the author, the story began with a letter from a young reader and soon took on a life of its own. When Princess Ozma goes missing from her palace in the Emerald City, and the instruments upon which Glinda the Good Witch and the Wizard of Oz are nowhere to be found, Dorothy bravely gathers a group of trustworthy companions in order to solve the mystery. With Glinda, the Wizard, Button-Bright, Trot, and Betsy Bobbin, Dorothy journeys west across the Land of Oz to Winkie Country. On the plateau of the Yips, they learn that Cayke the cookie cook has lost her magic dishpan before continuing on to the lost lands of Herku. There, the generous Czarover of Herku tells them a tale of the evil Ugu the Shoemaker, a wicked enchanter who lives in a castle high in the mountains of Herku. With her trusted companions at her side, Dorothy is willing to face down even the darkest of dangers in order to not only rescue the Princess, but restore the magical powers of Oz to those who would use them for good. Rinkitink in Oz (1916) is the tenth novel in L. Frank Baum's beloved Land of Oz series. Although it features a few of Baum's regular characters, the story mostly takes place outside of Oz, expanding upon an already enormous fictional universe. King Rinkitink and his talking goat Bilbil are on holiday in the island kingdom of Pingaree when invaders from Regos and Coregos attack, kidnapping the local king and queen. He agrees to aid the young Prince Inga in his quest to rescue his parents and restore the power of Pingaree. With the help of three magic pearls, Prince Inga and Rinktink defeat King Gos of Regos, but lose the pearls in the process. With bravery and willpower alone, the companions journey to the island of Coregos to face the evil Queen Cor. Although they manage to recover the magic pearls, as well as to free the people of Pingaree, Prince Inga's parents are taken to the underworld kingdom of the Nomes and sold into captivity. Faced with this most recent setback, Rinkitink, Bilbil, and Inga will need the help of Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz if they have any hope of saving Pingaree. Frank L. Baum's Rinkitink in Oz is a larger than life story of what a brave youth will do for love of family and country. From the mind of master fantasist L. Frank Baum, Rinkitink in Oz is a beautiful addition to an epic series that has captured hearts and minds for over a century. Long overshadowed by the film, Baum's series is required reading for children, adults, and anyone who refuses to let life lose its flavor of fantasy. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of L. Frank Baum's Rinkitink in Oz is a classic of children's literature reimagined for modern readers.
