Recent research has proved that the soiling of building facades can lead to physical damage as well as spoiling the visual appearance, and adversely affecting the value of the building. The RILEM Report on the soiling and cleaning of building facades examines all aspects of the cleaning of facades which are subject to soiling by both biological and non-biological agencies. The findings from the Report suggest that all buildings will be prone to soiling, and some because of their design will be difficult to clean due to restricted access.
