This edited collection brings together voices from the margins in underrepresented regions of the Global South, within the context of scholarship focusing on indigenous languages and development communication. Contributors bring together research from often-overlooked parts of the world to engage in dialogue towards an understanding of the similarities and differences between issues of language and development in the Global South, presenting cases as a starting point for further research and discussions about indigenous language and development communication in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Scholars of communication, sociology, linguistics, and development studies will find this book of particular interest
The degree of violence in Nigeria's Niger Delta has become endemic, characterized by 33 cases of kidnapping recorded between January 2006 and February 2007, with over 200 victims being mostly expatriate oil workers. There were also about 12, 770 cases of vandalism, particularly of oil pipelines and installations, recorded in Nigeria between 2000 and 2007 with most of them occurring in the Niger Delta. The implications of the Niger Delta crises are too far-reaching to be ignored: for the inhabitants of this area, there are constant environmental hazards and security threat, while for the Nigerian government, over N150.5bn in revenue was lost in eight years; there was also a drop of more than 20% in oil exports between April 2006 and October 2007. The concern of the research was why the escalation of conflicts rather than abatement between host communities and oil companies while the companies had in place community relations strategies to manage the conflicts in the communities?
The banking sector is undeniably one of the most important players in the economy of any nation. An economy without a viable banking structure is no doubt an unhealthy one. Considering the number of banks available in Nigeria, and the keen competition that exists among them, it becomes pertinent to examine their efforts to satisfy their customers and the customers' perceptions of such efforts. This book is a comparative study of customers' perception of the customer relations efforts of Intercontinental Bank and Prudent Bank. It examines the extent to which the customers believe that the two banks have provided efficient services, how services provided have attracted customer patronage, and how the type of relationship provided by the two banks has encouraged further patronage. This book concludes that the level of customer relations satisfaction enjoyed by customers of a bank encourages their loyalty, and their desire to sustain their patronage of the bank.
