Collins Bird Guide (Hardcover, 3rd Revised edition): Lars Svensson, Killian Mullarney, Dan Zetterstroem Collins Bird Guide (Hardcover, 3rd Revised edition)
Lars Svensson, Killian Mullarney, Dan Zetterstroem
R713 Discovery Miles 7 130 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The ultimate reference book for bird enthusiasts - now in its third edition. With expanded text and additional colour illustrations, the third edition of the hugely successful Collins Bird Guide is a must for every birdwatcher. The new edition has an extra 32 pages allowing several groups more space and completely or partly new plates with more detailed text: grouse, loons, several groups of raptors, terns, owls, swifts, woodpeckers, swallows, redstarts and some other relatives to the flycatchers (formerly often called 'small thrushes'), tits and a few finches and buntings are some of these. More than 50 plates are either new or have been repainted, completely or partly. Apart from this, a few new vignettes have been added. The section with vagrants has been expanded to accommodate more images and longer texts for several species. The entire text and all maps have of course also been revised. The book provides all the information needed to identify any species at any time of the year, covering size, habitat, range, identification and voice. Accompanying every species entry is a distribution map and illustrations showing the species in all the major plumages (male, female, immature, in flight, at rest, feeding: whatever is important). In addition, each group of birds includes an introduction which covers the major problems involved in identifying or observing them: how to organise a sea watching trip, how to separate birds of prey in flight, which duck hybrids can be confused with which main species. These and many other common birdwatching questions are answered. The combination of definitive text, up-to-date distribution maps and superb illustrations, all in a single volume, makes this book the ultimate field guide, essential on every bookshelf and birdwatching trip.

Handbook of Western Palearctic Birds - Passerines (Hardcover): Hadoram Shirihai, Lars Svensson Handbook of Western Palearctic Birds - Passerines (Hardcover)
Hadoram Shirihai, Lars Svensson
R5,318 Discovery Miles 53 180 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

THE BRITISH BIRDS BOOK OF THE YEAR 2018 This unique and spectacular handbook is the most complete and comprehensive photographic guide to the passerines of the Western Palearctic. Written by two of the world's most respected ornithologists, Hadoram Shirihai and Lars Svensson, it contains the most up-to-date information available on bird identification covering all aspects of plumage, moult, ageing and sexing, with sections on voice and other identification criteria, and detailed taxonomic notes. The passerines are divided into two volumes, with the first covering larks, hirundines, pipits and wagtails, bulbuls, accentors, robins, chats, wheatears, thrushes, prinias and cisticolas, and warblers, and the second covering flycatchers, reedlings, tits, nuthatches, orioles and sunbirds, shrikes, corvids, finches and buntings, along with extreme vagrants. The exceptional text is backed up by a remarkable collection of more than 5,000 photographs, featuring a comprehensive range of plumages that illustrate every race and morph of each species in the region. This stunning handbook will be the definitive reference for the region for years to come - no birder's shelf will be complete without it.

Welcome to the proceedings of PATMOS 2008, the 18th in a series of int- national workshops. PATMOS 2008 was organized by INESC-ID / IST - TU Lisbon, Portugal, with sponsorship by Cadence, IBM, Chipidea, and Tecmic, and technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE. Over the years, PATMOS has evolved into an important European event, where researchers from both industry and academia discuss and investigate the emerging challenges in future and contemporary applications, design meth- ologies, and tools required for the development of the upcoming generations of integrated circuits and systems. The technical program of PATMOS 2008 c- tained state-of-the-art technical contributions, three invited talks, and a special session on recon?gurable architectures. The technical program focused on t- ing, performance and power consumption, as well as architectural aspects with particular emphasis on modeling, design, characterization, analysis and op- mization in the nanometer era. The Technical Program Committee, with the assistance of additional expert reviewers, selected the 41 papers presented at PATMOS. The papers were - ganized into 7 oral sessions (with a total of 31 papers) and 2 poster sessions (with a total of 10 papers). As is customary for the PATMOS workshops, full papers were required for review, and a minimum of three reviews were received per manuscript.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 17th International Workshop on Power and Timing Modeling, Optimization and Simulation, PATMOS 2007, held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in September 2007.

The 36 revised full papers and 19 revised poster papers presented together with the abstracts of 3 key notes and 2 industrial papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on high-level design, low power design techniques, low power analog circuits, statistical static timing analysis, power modeling and optimization, low power routing optimization, security and asynchronous design, low power applications, modeling and optimization, low power techniques and applications, as well as design challenges in real-life projects.
