Auf Grund des Umstands, dass das Land Nordrhein-Westfalen in der politischen Farbenlehre nicht selten dem linken Lager zugeordnet und als "SPD-Stammland" bezeichnet wird, drangt sich die Verfassung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen nicht eben auf, wenn man fragt oder fragen will, ob sie Spuren der Zehn Gebote enthalt. Und doch ist bei genauerer Betrachtung erkennbar, dass der Ansatz gar nicht so fernliegend ist. Denn die Landesverfassung verdankt sich einem streitigen Mehrheitsbeschluss von Union und Zentrum und stellt sich als eine Verfassungsurkunde heraus, die in der Sache der Religion wie den Religionsgemeinschaften ahnlich viel Raum einraumt wie diejenigen aus dem suddeutschen Raum. Die vorliegende Arbeit geht der Frage nach, in welchem Masse die nordrhein-westfalische Landesverfassung in ihrer heutigen Form noch Spuren der Zehn Gebote aufweist und an welchen Stellen sich die Landesverfassung in kritischer Dissonanz zu den Zehn Geboten wiederfindet. Dabei wird das Verhaltnis von Staat und Kirche im Zeitpunkt der Entstehung der Landesverfassung umfassend analysiert und untersucht, welchen Einfluss die Kirchen im Entstehungsprozess der Landesverfassung Nordrhein-Westfalens im 20. Jahrhundert hatten. Daruber hinaus erfolgt eine Gesamtbewertung, die sich mit dem historischen Kontext der Zehn Gebote des Dekalogs befasst.
