This work is a study of the impacts of the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA). By focusing on the issue of justice in the
contexts of globalization and neo-colonialism, the book contributes
to a broader discussion of the significance of NAFTA. Authors
Laurence French and Magdaleno ManzanOrez emphasize cultural and
ethnic issues in the relations of NAFTA partners and enrich
treatment of the topic by bringing to bear sociology, political
science, justice studies, psychology, and educational theory. The
authors relate classical sociological theory to contemporary issues
of social and criminal justice.
What does it really take to become a brilliant teacher? As a supply
teacher you will be faced with the unfamiliar. You may find
yourself in a school that you have never been to before. The
students may be strangers to you ... and you to them, of course;
subjects that you teach will not necessarily be your own
specialisms; you may not have built up working relationships with
the other staff. Faced with these challenges, prepare yourself for
any eventuality with the help of Brilliant Supply Teacher. Through
hints, tips and anecdotal advice Laurence French provides a
practical guide to the day-to-day aspects of supply teaching to
help make this important school role more enjoyable and fulfilling.
In 1973, Cherokee students at the Qualla Boundary started a student
organization with the intention of improving the educational
prospects among Native Americans attending non-Indian colleges and
universities. Under the direction of Laurence French and Charles
Jim Hornbuckle, the students interviewed Cherokee elders and
received help from the American Indian Historical Society in order
to gain an accurate history and assessment of the tribe, which has
a long misunderstood history. In order to gain more traction and
involvement in the project, special college courses were offered at
the Cherokee High School under the supervision of French and
Hornbuckle. Published in 1981, The Cherokee Perspective is a
compilation of the articles written in these courses.
