This book presents in detail the theory, processes and equipment
involved in cold rolling precision forming technologies, focusing
on spline and thread shaft parts. The main topics discussed include
the status quo of research on these technologies; the design and
calculation of process parameters; the numerical simulation of cold
rolling forming processes; and the equipment used. The mechanism of
cold rolling forming is extremely complex, and research on the
processes, theory and mechanical analysis of spline cold rolling
forming has remained very limited to date. In practice, the forming
processes and production methods used are mainly chosen on the
basis of individual experience. As such, there is a marked lack of
both systematic, theory-based guidelines, and of specialized books
covering theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, experiments
and equipment used in spline cold rolling forming processes.

This collection features four peer-reviewed literature reviews on
drought-resistant crops. The first chapter assesses the genes
involved in drought and heat tolerance, as well as the
physiological traits related to increased tolerance to abiotic
stress in wheat. It reviews advances in our understanding of the
molecular markers associated with these physiological traits, and
the roles of key genes in determining a wheat plant's response to
heat and drought stress. The second chapter discusses mechanisms of
drought resistance in rice. It reviews ways of assessing drought
tolerance performance, identifying genes promoting drought
tolerance through quantitative trait loci (QLT) analysis, as well
as breeding for drought tolerance. The third chapter highlights the
genetic diversity and quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with
the traits contributing to drought and heat tolerance in soybean.
It also reviews genomic resources that can facilitate a better
understanding of phenotype-genotype associations and formulate
genomic-assisted breeding strategies. The final chapter addresses
the polygenic nature of tolerance to drought and to heat in grain
legumes. It reviews advances in understanding plant adaptation to
stress, the assembly of molecular and phenotyping tools to support
breeding and the development of tolerance through traditional and
molecular breeding techniques.
Written by author and speaker Shawn Seah, My Father's Kampung
delves into the social history of Aukang and Punggol as it traces a
son's journey to better understand and appreciate the kampung life
his father lived. The book is rich in personal stories and oral
histories of those who lived there from the 1940s to 1970s, brought
to life by Seah's passionate narrative as well as illustrations and
photos. This book is supported by the National Heritage Board, with
Forewords by Robert Yeo and Montfort Alumni.

This book integrates three levels of political-economic analysis:
first a comparative institutional analysis of the varieties of
capitalism in both Europe and Asia, second a macroeconomic analysis
of industrial structural change and economic dynamics of the
national economies in Europe and Asia, and then an encompassing
analysis of international production linkages and international
financial instability which determine the long-term patterns of
regional integration in Europe and Asia. The comparison of the
European Union and ASEAN delivers some key conditions for a viable
long-term regional economic integration to cope with contrasted
capitalisms and growth regimes: either pragmatism in the choice of
an exchange rate regime, or a form of fiscal federalism. The reader
will also find a genuine analysis of the dynamism of the Chinese
economy, a study on institutional changes and de-industrialization
in Japan, and the increasing international production linkages
among China, Japan, Korea, and ASEAN. It is shown how the
enlargement of the European Union and the Euro triggered the
diverging competitiveness and macroeconomic performances that led
to the crisis of a six decades long economic and political process.
This book is the result of long lasting Asian-European
collaborative research. It is a milestone in the historical and
comparative analysis along the regulation theory that aims at
understanding the long-run transformations, renewed diversity and
interdependence of capitalisms.
This brief examines current research on cooperative
device-to-device (D2D) communication as an enhanced offloading
technology to improve the performance of cognitive radio cellular
networks. By providing an extensive review of recent advances in
D2D communication, the authors demonstrate that the quality of D2D
links significantly affects offloading performance in cellular
networks, which motivates the design of cooperative D2D
communication. After presenting the architecture of cooperative D2D
communication, the challenges of capacity maximization and energy
efficiency are addressed by optimizing relay assignment, power
control and resource allocation. Furthermore, cooperative D2D
communication is enhanced by network coding technology, and then is
extended for broadcast sessions. Along with detailed problem
formulation and hardness analysis, fast algorithms are developed by
exploiting problem-specific characteristics such that they can be
applied in practice.
The intelligent vehicle will play a crucial and essential role in
the development of the future intelligent transportation system,
which is developing toward the connected driving environment,
ultimate driving safety, and comforts, as well as green efficiency.
While the decision making, planning, and control are extremely
vital components of the intelligent vehicle, these modules act as a
bridge, connecting the subsystem of the environmental perception
and the bottom-level control execution of the vehicle as well. This
short book covers various strategies of designing the decision
making, trajectory planning, and tracking control, as well as share
driving, of the human-automation to adapt to different levels of
the automated driving system. More specifically, we introduce an
end-to-end decision-making module based on the deep Q-learning, and
improved path-planning methods based on artificial potentials and
elastic bands which are designed for obstacle avoidance. Then, the
optimal method based on the convex optimization and the natural
cubic spline is presented. As for the speed planning, planning
methods based on the multi-object optimization and high-order
polynomials, and a method with convex optimization and natural
cubic splines, are proposed for the non-vehicle-following scenario
(e.g., free driving, lane change, obstacle avoidance), while the
planning method based on vehicle-following kinematics and the model
predictive control (MPC) is adopted for the car-following scenario.
We introduce two robust tracking methods for the trajectory
following. The first one, based on nonlinear vehicle longitudinal
or path-preview dynamic systems, utilizes the adaptive sliding mode
control (SMC) law which can compensate for uncertainties to follow
the speed or path profiles. The second one is based on the
five-degrees-of-freedom nonlinear vehicle dynamical system that
utilizes the linearized time-varying MPC to track the speed and
path profile simultaneously. Toward human-automation cooperative
driving systems, we introduce two control strategies to address the
control authority and conflict management problems between the
human driver and the automated driving systems. Driving safety
field and game theory are utilized to propose a game-based
strategy, which is used to deal with path conflicts during obstacle
avoidance. Driver's driving intention, situation assessment, and
performance index are employed for the development of the
fuzzy-based strategy. Multiple case studies and demos are included
in each chapter to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
We sincerely hope the contents of this short book provide certain
theoretical guidance and technical supports for the development of
intelligent vehicle technology.
