In this unusual retelling, the biblical story of creation is told
from Eve's perspective and explores what it might have been like
emotionally for the world's first two people to experience
everything for the very first time--seeing and naming the animals;
feeling the rain; fearing the night; becoming excited by the stars,
and having faith that they are not alone.Lush illustrations bring
the wonder of the new world to life, while children will enjoy
looking for the recurring cat and dog characters throughout the
story. The story stops well before the infamous apple-eating
scene, focusing instead on themes of curiosity, discovery, new
experiences, handling fear, and having faith. Author's note further
explores the nature of faith for young children.
"This cheery book features joy, courtesy, and care for others in a
fun and lighthearted way". --Jewish Book Council "Delightful and
perky picture book" --The Sydney Taylor Shmooze It's hard to
believe, but some people are afraid of monsters. It's true that
monsters can look scary. But most of us are kind and helpful.
Monsters can even be mensches! Because anyone can be a mensch.
Mensches can be young or old, short or tall, pink or green or even
striped. They can be sporty or warty. Mensches can be lovers of
books, makers of mud pies, or collectors of caterpillars. Yes
anyone can be a mensch. It's easy to be kind and do the right
thing. Well, most of the time. Join this bevy of friendly, colorful
monsters as they demonstrate how they, too, can be mensches
(creatures of integrity and honor) by treating others well.
Includes a definition of the word mensch.

The Little Red Hen has gone through various versions and
permutations, but surely this is the first time she has a
Yiddish accent. Realizing its almost Passover, the Little Red Hen
says, Oy gevalt! She needs matzah for her seder dinner, and that
means growing wheat. Horse, Sheep, and Dog are not interested in
helping. Harvesting? Again, nope. Milling? Were resting. By now,
the Little Red Hen realizes shes dealing
with a bunch of no-goodniks. She bakes the matzah (according to
Jewish law . . . in just eighteen minutes) and then sets her seder
table. Guess who arrives? What chutzpah! But then the Little Red
Hen remembers the Haggadahs words: Let all who are hungry come and
eat. Children familiar with Passover will get a kick out of this,
and the ink-and-watercolor art amusingly captures both the Little
Red Hens aggravation and the animals turnaround. Those really in
the know might wonder about a sheep at a holiday table where lamb
blood plays a major role, but, hey, at least
