Condition Monitoring of Rotating Electrical Machines (Hardcover, 3rd edition): Peter Tavner, Li Ran, Christopher Crabtree Condition Monitoring of Rotating Electrical Machines (Hardcover, 3rd edition)
Peter Tavner, Li Ran, Christopher Crabtree
R4,384 Discovery Miles 43 840 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Condition monitoring of engineering plants has increased in importance as engineering processes have become increasingly automated. However, electrical machinery usually receives attention only at infrequent intervals when the plant or the electricity generator is shut down. The economics of industry have been changing, placing ever more emphasis on the importance of reliable operation of the plants. Electronics and software in instrumentation, computers, and digital signal processors have improved our ability to analyse machinery online. Condition monitoring is now being applied to a range of systems from fault-tolerant drives of a few hundred watts to machinery of a few hundred MW in major plants. This book covers a large range of machines and their condition monitoring. This 3rd edition builds on the 2nd edition through a major revision, update of chapters and a comprehensive list of references & standards. Permanent magnet, switched reluctance and other types of machines are now covered, as well as variable speed drive machines and off-line techniques. Contents cover an introduction to condition monitoring; rotating electrical machines; electrical machine construction, operation and failure modes; reliability of machines and typical failure rates; signal processing and instrumentation requirements; on-line temperature monitoring; on-line chemical monitoring; on-line vibration monitoring; on-line current, flux and power monitoring; on-line partial discharge (PD) electrical monitoring; on-line variable speed drive machine monitoring; off-line monitoring; condition-based maintenance and asset management; application of artificial intelligence techniques to CM; and safety, training and qualification.

Research on the Balance of Educational Resources Allocation and Spatial Layout: Li Ran Research on the Balance of Educational Resources Allocation and Spatial Layout
Li Ran
R4,127 Discovery Miles 41 270 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Based on the spatial perspective, this book takes the urban area of Xi'an, China, as the main research region and studies the balance of resource allocation, focusing on educational resources and school layout. The author constructs a mathematical model to measure the level and types of resource allocation and regional differences in primary schools, and uses GIS spatial analysis to explore the efficiency and fairness of school spatial layout. The book suggests a better way for the balanced development of basic education in Xi'an city. It also provides theoretical foundations, analytical methods and empirical support for the study of balanced public resource management in public service, urban planning and urban geography. This book is suitable for students and scholars of tourism management, regional planning, facilities and urban management, and those interested in resource allocation in Chinese urban areas in general.

Offshore Wind Farms: Technologies, Design and Operation provides the latest information on offshore wind energy, one of Europe's most promising and quickly maturing industries, and a potentially huge untapped renewable energy source which could contribute significantly towards EU 20-20-20 renewable energy generation targets. It has been estimated that by 2030 Europe could have 150GW of offshore wind energy capacity, meeting 14% of our power demand. Offshore Wind Farms: Technologies, Design and Operation provides a comprehensive overview of the emerging technologies, design, and operation of offshore wind farms. Part One introduces offshore wind energy as well as offshore wind turbine siting with expert analysis of economics, wind resources, and remote sensing technologies. The second section provides an overview of offshore wind turbine materials and design, while part three outlines the integration of wind farms into power grids with insights to cabling and energy storage. The final section of the book details the installation and operation of offshore wind farms with chapters on condition monitoring and health and safety, amongst others.

Condition monitoring of engineering plant has increased in importance as engineering processes are automated and manpower is reduced. However, electrical machinery receives attention only at infrequent intervals when plant is shut down and the application of protective relays to machines has also reduced operator surveillance. A first edition of Condition Monitoring of Electrical Machines, written by Tavner and Penman, was published in 1987. The economics of industry have now changed, as a result of the privatisation and deregulation of the energy industry, placing emphasis on the importance of reliable operation of plant, throughout the whole life cycle, regardless of first cost. The availability of advanced electronics and software in powerful instrumentation, computers, and digital signal processors (DSP) has simplified our ability to instrument and analyse machinery. As a result condition monitoring is now being applied to a wider range of systems, from fault-tolerant drives of a few hundred watts in the aerospace industry, to machinery of a few hundred megawatts in major capital plant. In this new book the original authors have been joined by Ran, an expert in power electronics and control, and Sedding, an expert in the monitoring of electrical insulation systems. Together the authors have revised and expanded the earlier book, merging their own experience with that of machine analysts to bring it up to date. The book is aimed at professional engineers in the energy, process engineering and manufacturing industries, plus research workers and students.
