11th World Congress on Engineering Asset Management (WCEAM), which
was held in Jiuzhaigou, China, on 25-28 July, 2016. These
proceedings cover a wide range of topics in engineering asset
management, including: * strategic asset management; * condition
monitoring and diagnostics; * integrated intelligent maintenance; *
sensors and devices; * information quality and management; *
sustainability in asset management; * asset performance and
knowledge management; * data mining and AI techni ques in asset
management; * engineering standards; and * education in engineering
asset management. The breadth and depth of these state-of-the-art,
comprehensive proceedings make them an excellent resource for asset
management practitioners, researchers and academics, as well as
undergraduate and postgraduate students.
This book provides comprehensive coverage of the latest
trends/advances in subjective and objective quality evaluation for
traditional visual signals, such as 2D images and video, as well as
the most recent challenges for the field of multimedia quality
assessment and processing, such as mobile video and social media.
Readers will learn how to ensure the highest storage/delivery/
transmission quality of visual content (including image, video,
graphics, animation, etc.) from the server to the consumer, under
resource constraints, such as computation, bandwidth, storage
space, battery life, etc.
These proceedings include a collection of papers on a range of
topics presented at the 12th World Congress on Engineering Asset
Management (WCEAM) in Brisbane, 2 - 4 August 2017. Effective
strategies are required for managing complex engineering assets
such as built environments, infrastructure, plants, equipment,
hardware systems and components. Following the release of the ISO
5500x set of standards in 2014, the 12th WCEAM addressed important
issues covering all aspects of engineering asset management across
various sectors including health. The topics discussed by the
congress delegates are grouped into a number of tracks, including
strategies for investment and divestment of assets, operations and
maintenance of assets, assessment of assets' health conditions,
risk and vulnerability, technologies, and systems for management of
assets, standards, education, training and certification.
This book traces a most obscure and yet most intriguing theme
concealed in Heidegger's thinking and work, which has hitherto not
yet been made the focus of a thorough and sustained investigation:
that is, the emergence and course of Heidegger's interest in East
Asian thought and of his reflection on East-West dialogue. Lin Ma
covers such complex issues as Heidegger's thoughts on language,
Being, technology, the other beginning, and the journey abroad,
with a view to their implications for East-West dialogue. It
reveals the significance of his remarks on the early Greek's
confrontation with the Asiatic, and presents contextualized
interpretations of his fleeting references to the topic of
East-West dialogue and of his encounter with the Daodejing.
Finally, it delves into "A dialogue on language" and exposes the
strains and tensions that accompany Heidegger's extension of
dialogue and the Same, the two notions central to his thought, to
the question of East-West dialogue. In the end, Lin Ma concludes
that Heidegger's fundamental concerns and philosophical
orientations as articulated in terms of the history of Being and
the other beginning have restricted him from engaging more
seriously with the irresolvable and yet enduring issue of East-West
dialogue.

Optical communication networks have played and will continue to
play a prominent role in the development and deployment of
communication network infrastructures. New optical systems and
protocols will enable next generation optical networks to meet the
diverse requirements from a wide range of new applications and
services. Optical networks have evolved to become more flexible,
intelligent and reliable. New optical switching architectures,
technologies, and sophisticated control and management protocols
have already enabled optical networks to be used not only in the
core but also the metropolitan and access networks. The widespread
deployment of optical communication networks will continue to have
a big impact on our future lifestyle. Current Research Progress of
Optical Networks is aimed to provide an overview on recent research
progresses in optical networking with proposed solutions, survey
and tutorials on various issues and topics in optical network
technologies and services.

This book considers the pollutants formed by the combustion of
solid biomass fuels. The availability and potential use of solid
biofuels is first discussed because this is the key to the
development of biomass as a source of energy. This is followed by
details of the methods used for characterisation of biomass and
their classification. The various steps in the combustion
mechanisms are given together with a compilation of the kinetic
data. The chemical mechanisms for the formation of the pollutants:
NOx, smoke and unburned hydrocarbons, SOx, Cl compounds, and
particulate metal aerosols are given in detail. Combustion kinetics
required for the application for design purposes are given.
Examples are given of emission levels of a range different types of
combustion equipment. Data is given of NOx, particulates and other
pollutant arising from combustion of different fuels in fixed bed
combustion, fluidized bed combustion and pulverised biomass
combustion and co-firing. Modeling methods including computational
fluid dynamics for the various pollutants are outlined. The
consequential issues arising from the wide scale use of biomass and
future trends are then discussed. In particular the role of carbon
capture and storage in large biomass combustion plants is
considered as well as the opportunity of reducing the concentration
of atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide.

Recent developments on wireless communication technology have
resulted in tremendous innovations to make broadband wireless
networks able to compete with 3G cellular network. IEEE 802.16X
standards have not only specified WiMax wireless access networks
but also designed a framework of wireless metropolitan area
networks with mobility functionality. It is obvious that with
further development of various WiMax technologies, wide range of
high-quality, flexible wireless mobile applications and services
could be provided, which will revolutionarily improve our modern
life to achieve the goal of accessing the global information at any
place and at any time by any mobile device in the future. Current
Technology Developments of WiMax Systems addresses the recent
developments of WiMax technologies for both academia and industry.
It is expected to be a good reference for further research and
development on WiMax systems.
