Nachdem die herausragende Stabilitat der industriellen Beziehungen in der Schweiz in den 1990er-Jahren zu einem abrupten Ende gekommen war, waren die Gewerkschaften gefordert, ihre Strategien und Handlungsweisen der vergangenen Jahre zu uberdenken. Nach einer Zeit der Orientierungslosigkeit konnten die Gewerkschaften durch eine Anpassung ihrer Strategien zahlreiche Erfolge erringen. Ein wesentliches Merkmal der gegenwartigen Umbruchphase ist, dass die Schweizer Gewerkschaften die drei Instrumente - Kasse, Vertrag und Gesetz - mit deren Hilfe sie in der Sozialpolitik aktiv sein konnen, neu positionieren und verwenden. Die vorliegende Dissertation will in einem ersten Schritt Grundlagenforschung betreiben, indem untersucht werden soll, wie sich die Praferenzen und Strategien der Gewerkschaften in Bezug auf ihre sozialpolitischen Einflussmoglichkeiten im Laufe ihrer historischen Entwicklung verandert haben. In einem zweiten Schritt soll ein analytisch-theoretischer Mehrwert geschaffen werden, indem untersucht wird, weshalb es zu diesen Umbruchen in der Verwendung und Praferenz von sozialpolitischen Instrumenten gekommen ist.
