people to repentance. In workbook format, it provides exercises for
students, questions for discussion, memory verses, and much more.
Wisdom of the Word was founded in 1986 by Jeannie McCullough in
Bethany, Oklahoma. It began as a weekly Bible study at Bethany
First Church of the Nazarene. In the first year the study grew to
over 400 members, and people from other churches and the community
began joining. The local enrollment of Wisdom of the Word
eventually exceeded 1,000. Wisdom of the Word has been an
instrument in uniting the community of believers as well as
reaching the unchurched and the lost. It is now ministering to
thousands through videos and cassette tapes and other programs such
as Children of the Word, prison ministries, and missions.
The proclamation by the United Nations that 2012 would be the
International Year of Co-operatives represents a milestone in the
history of the international co-operative movement. It reflects the
growth and renewal of co-operatives globally during the past decade
and a half, whether the focus is on financial co-operatives in
Britain or producer co-operatives across Africa. Co-operatives have
proved resilient in the wake of the global financial crisis of
2008-9 compared to the investor led business and financial
companies which have been found profoundly wanting, financially and
morally. The contributions to The Hidden Alternative demonstrate
that co-operation offers a real and much needed alternative for the
organisation of human economic and social affairs, one that should
establish its place at the forefront of public and academic
discussion and policy making. The book includes chapters on
education, fair trade, politics and governance, planning and
sustainability and on how co-operatives have coped with the global
economic crisis. -- .
After decades of flying beneath the radar, co-operation as a
principle of business and socio-economic organisation is moving
from the margins of economic, social and political thought into the
mainstream. In both the developed and developing world,
co-operative models are increasingly viewed as central to tackling
a diverse array of issues, including global food security, climate
change, sustainable economic development, public service provision
and gender inequality. This collection, drawing together research
from an interdisciplinary group of scholars and co-operative
practitioners, considers the different spheres in which
co-operatives are becoming more prominent. Drawing examples from
different national and international contexts, the book offers
major insights into how co-operation will come to occupy a more
central role in social and economic life in the twenty-first
century. Mainstreaming co-operation will be of interest to students
and academics studying economics, business studies, history,
politics and international development, but also to policy makers
interested in co-operatives and mutuals as a viable alternative to
conventional models of social and economic development. -- .
Health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, and
clinical social workers, are required by law and professional codes
of conduct to report suspected child abuse. These so called
"mandated reporters" need current and practical information to
recognize the signs and symptoms of child maltreatment. The fourth
edition of Recognition of Child Abuse for the Mandated Reporter has
been revised and updated to include contemporary best practices in
the evaluation of child abuse and neglect. The authors and editors
of this vital text represent a diverse array of professional
disciplines and research interests. Together, they have assembled a
multidisciplinary work concerned with a variety of topics essential
to the recognition and prevention of child abuse wherever it may
occur. These topics include: Recognizing and reporting physical
abuse, sexual abuse, and child neglect Medical child abuse, or
Munchausen's syndrome by proxy Risks to children in the digital
age, including online predation and sexual exploitation Creative
art therapy and its potential benefits to traumatized children
Recognizing and reporting child abuse in the school setting
Recognition of Child Abuse for the Mandated Reporter is a
definitive reference for front line professionals seeking to comply
with mandated reporting guidelines. In addition, this publication
serves as a textbook for students studying medicine, nursing,
social work, and law enforcement and who plan to work with children
and families in their professional practice. Written by experts on
the front lines of child protection, Recognition of Child Abuse for
the Mandated Reporter details the most effective methods for
interviews, examinations, documentation, and appropriate referrals
in cases of child maltreatment.
