Principles of Engineering Tribology: Fundamentals and Applications
introduces readers to the core theories and fundamentals of the
field, its basic terminology and concepts, as well as advanced
topics such as the tribological properties of various engineering
surfaces, roughness measurements, and the mechanics of surface
contact. The fundamentals of friction and wear of metallic and
non-metallic materials such as polymers, ceramics, rubbers, and
composites are discussed, as are fluidic, gaseous, grease, and
solid media lubrication techniques. In addition, the properties of
lubricants and various types of additives incorporated are
discussed, along with a methodology for conducting friction, wear
and lubrication laboratory testing and an overview of simulation
and modeling methods for various tribosystems. Case studies and
applications are featured throughout, with a particular emphasis on
analyzing failure modes of tribosystems.
SRv6 Network Programming, beginning with the challenges for
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) network development, describes
the background, roadmap design, and implementation of Segment
Routing over IPv6 (SRv6), as well as the application of this
technology in traditional and emerging services. The book begins
with the development of IP technologies by focusing on the problems
encountered during MPLS and IPv6 network development, giving
readers insights into the problems tackled by SRv6 and the value of
SRv6. It then goes on to explain SRv6 fundamentals, including SRv6
packet header design, the packet forwarding process, protocol
extensions such as Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP), Border Gateway
Protocol (BGP), and Path Computation Element Protocol (PCEP)
extensions, and how SRv6 supports existing traffic engineering
(TE), virtual private networks (VPN), and reliability requirements.
Next, SRv6 network deployment is introduced, covering the evolution
paths from existing networks to SRv6 networks, SRv6 network
deployment processes, involved O&M technologies, and emerging
5G and cloud services supported by SRv6. Bit Index Explicit
Replication IPv6 encapsulation (BIERv6), an SRv6 multicast
technology, is then introduced as an important supplement to SRv6
unicast technology. The book concludes with a summary of the
current status of the SRv6 industry and provides an outlook for new
SRv6-based technologies. SRv6 Network Programming: Ushering in a
New Era of IP Networks collects the research results of Huawei SRv6
experts and reflects the latest development direction of SRv6. With
rich, clear, practical, and easy-to-understand content, the volume
is intended for network planning engineers, technical support
engineers and network administrators who need a grasp of the most
cutting-edge IP network technology. It is also intended for
communications network researchers in scientific research
institutions and universities. Authors: Zhenbin Li is the Chief
Protocol Expert of Huawei and member of the IETF IAB, responsible
for IP protocol research and standards promotion at Huawei. Zhibo
Hu is a Senior Huawei Expert in SR and IGP, responsible for SR and
IGP planning and innovation. Cheng Li is a Huawei Senior
Pre-research Engineer and IP standards representative, responsible
for Huawei's SRv6 research and standardization.
Whether she is personifying the colors of her crayons, consoling a
friend by clinging to the "doorframe of our shared past," or
describing "the secret joy etched in penciled plans," Liz Chang's
second collection of poems reverberates with the mystery found in
everyday life. She examines "ordinary objects that] stood for whole
lives," and treats them with reverence, sympathy, and humor.
Picking through totems of memory-small keys, a bird's nest,
grasscloth wallpaper, sepia hair dye, a man's foot, a lace
tablecloth, origami paper-she seeks clues to their identities.
While some work examines the life behind things, other poems create
fictional persona that showcase her narrative gifts. What Ordinary
Objects is also her debut as a translator, including poems by
French poet Claude de Burine, that seamlessly dialogue with Chang's
own poetry. Liz Chang is 2012 Montgomery County Poet Laureate and
Assistant Professor of English at Delaware County Community
College. She received her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
In her first collection of poetry, Liz Chang examines pieces of her
life as though they were artifacts left behind by the tide:
smoothed by time, partially revealed, and a bit salty. She grapples
with relationships, reconsiders childhood memories, and confronts
fears that one might not suffice, might not make a difference.
While admitting to doubt and disappointment, her language is never
bitter; she doesn't whine or thrash but observes, gently
questioning her own provenance, occasionally soothing the self
she's exploring and recognizing her need to connect. With
directness ("I want to feel radiant/...to push my capacity/to open
to light") and charm ("I wish I were a bird stand/with my
fluttering desires neatly caged/and securely bolted inside"),
Chang's language and youth embrace the reader in this impressive
debut.
Written by a diverse group of authors from across the globe, Dance
Cultures Around the World offers students a rich and in-depth look
at 25 different cultures of dance. Through a dynamic collaboration
with the chapter authors, editors Lynn E. Frederiksen and Shih-Ming
Li Chang have carefully created a unique multimedia resource that
includes vetted links to dance videos, images, and other materials.
The text, suitable for high school and undergraduate general
education and dance courses, addresses cross-cultural dynamics,
colonialism, diaspora, politics, and more as critical factors in
learning about cultures of dance around the world. As stated in the
preface, “Every culture has some form of dance. However, why
people dance—and further, how they define and create dance—are
the difficult questions at the core of this text. Once you
understand why dance exists and examine the factors that explain
particular dance forms, you can engage more fully with many
cultures of dance, including your own.” Written by cultural
insiders, the chapters illuminate contexts and histories of dances
often misinterpreted through the notion of dance as a universal
language. “Just as you would not expect to understand a foreign
language simply because it is human speech, you cannot expect to
understand foreign dance without some ‘translation.’ The
multiple layers of meaning and history in foreign dances are often
left unrevealed, and therefore the opportunity for true
cross-cultural understanding is missed.” To ensure rich
cross-cultural engagement, the insiders “translate” their dance
cultures, showing how influential forces affect both the qualities
of the dance and its place in society. Dance Cultures Around the
World offers a wealth of information: It explores dance cultures in
nine geopolitical regions. It reveals patterns that operate in each
region, adjusting for historical, political, and geographical
differences. It enriches the reader’s experience of their own
culture, as well as those of others, as they learn what dance is in
various cultures, who dances, and why they dance. Each chapter
begins with a vignette describing a signature dance or
dance-related feature of the culture, followed by an introduction
to its history and geography. Significant events, people, and
qualities of the dance culture are highlighted throughout the
chapters. Instructors and students have access to online resources
through HKPropel. Instructor resources include a sample syllabus,
chapter summaries, and suggested answers for chapter discussion
questions; a presentation package with PowerPoint slides; a test
package with over 700 multiple-choice, true-false, and
fill-in-the-blank questions; and ready-made chapter quizzes.
Student resources include links to videos, articles, and websites
for further learning; key terms and definitions; references and
resources; an application activity for each chapter; and chapter
quizzes. Dance Cultures Around the World gives readers an overview
of dance cultures and provides an insider’s perspective on how
dance develops and evolves around the world. Together with the
online resources in HKPropel, the book gives students and
instructors a well-crafted gateway to dance cultures across the
globe. Note: A code for accessing HKPropel is included with all
print books.
