Ghosts at Gettysburg - An Oliver Family Adventure (Hardcover): Lloyd S. Wagner Ghosts at Gettysburg - An Oliver Family Adventure (Hardcover)
Lloyd S. Wagner
R446 Discovery Miles 4 460 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Gettysburg-Site of the epic battle that forever changed the United States. Some also say it is the most haunted place on earth.

In "Ghosts at Gettysburg," the third Oliver Family Adventure, the Oliver family visits Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, site of the three-day battle. While Tyler and Tommy participate in a re-enactment, learning about the battle and those that fought it, their sister Paige and mother Judy reluctantly learn of the town's haunted history through frightening encounters of their own.

On their very first evening there they see pictures of glowing orbs on the battlefield and meet a mysterious woman who seems to be everywhere. While Tommy marches with Confederate troops and Tyler helps man the cannons atop Cemetery Ridge, the Oliver women encounter the ghosts of a grieving father and a sad young soldier, forcing them to rethink their ideas about ghosts, spirits and hauntings.

When the battle reaches its climax at Pickett's Charge the boys find themselves on opposite sides of that bloody clash. There they learn what it was to be a soldier in the American Civil War.

Greenman (Hardcover): Lloyd S. Wagner Greenman (Hardcover)
Lloyd S. Wagner
R473 Discovery Miles 4 730 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Greenman-a face peering out of the leaves, the Celtic god of the woods and a figure familiar to us all. Some say he can still be found deep in the English woods.

In the second Oliver Family Adventure, "Greenman," Tyler, Paige and Tommy travel to England and learn about practical jokes, Celtic culture, alternative religions, and why the English drive on the other side of the road, all while immersed in another exciting adventure

Arriving in Sutton Benger, England-a little village with a lot of history-the Oliver's see a man in green get thrown off a bridge. They soon meet Liam, their amiable host and deacon at the village church, his niece Cerri, a spirited girl with a few stories to tell, and encounter Edwin Bell, a mysterious man who lives in the woods. Add Greenman, the timeless Celtic icon, and talk of magic in the woods and soon young imaginations run wild with fears that may, or may not, be real.

When a practical joke leads to unforeseen peril the children are forced to face their fears. In the end they realize that understanding a person's beliefs is the key to seeing those things that make us the same, rather than those that make us different.

El Chupacabras - Trail of the Goatsucker (Hardcover): Lloyd S. Wagner El Chupacabras - Trail of the Goatsucker (Hardcover)
Lloyd S. Wagner
R468 Discovery Miles 4 680 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

"El Chupacabras -- The Goatsucker"--a rumored beast with a fanged mouth, enormous red eyes, and thin clawed arms; its name alone ignites the imagination.

With visions of this urban legend in their heads Tyler and Tommy Oliver and their new stepsister, Paige, arrive in tropical Belize for a family vacation. There they meet Peto and Natalie, the only other children on the small island where they are staying.

To their delight, Peto has not only heard of "El Chupacabras," he is convinced there is a goatsucker on the island. Adding to this is Reaux, the resort manager, who tells of encountering a goatsucker.

Following the clues the children learn about life on a barrier reef, the ancient Maya, Caribbean cultures and the power of urban legends. Most importantly, Tyler and Tommy learn to respect and value Paige, finally accepting her as their sister.
