Pamela Armstrong, Thomas Allen, Lyubov Petrova, Malena Ernman and
Hakan Hagegard are the soloists in this performance of Strauss'
comic operetta from the Glyndebourne Opera House, with the
Glyndebourne Chorus and the London Philharmonic Orchestra,
conducted by Vladimir Jurowski. Rosalinde, wife of Eisenstein, is
having an affair with Alfred. Eisenstein is due to begin a prison
sentence the next morning, and the prison governor, Frank, is
expected to collect him at any moment. However, Eisenstein allows
himself to be talked into attending a fancy dress ball by Dr Falke,
and when Frank arrives to find Alfred with Rosalinde, he assumes
him to be Eisenstein and carts him off to prison.
Documentary that follows conductor Christoph Von Dohnanyi as he
works on Haydn's Symphony no. 88 in G major with the London
Philharmonia Orchestra, at the Royal Festival Hall in 1998.
David McVicar's exuberant 2003 Glyndebourne production of Bizet's
Carmen, starring Anne Sofie von Otter in the title role. Philippe
Jordan conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the
Glyndebourne Chorus. The cast includes Marcus Haddock, Laurent
Naouri and Lisa Milne.
A recording of David McVicar's 2011 production of Richard Wagner's
opera, performed for the first time at Glyndebourne, with Vladimir
Jurowski leading the London Philharmonic Orchestra. An all-star
cast features Gerald Finley, Marco Jentzsch, Anna Gabler, Michaela
Selinger, and Topi Lehtipuu.
Live performance of the opera by Giuseppe Verdi conducted by Mark
Elder. Recorded at Glyndebourne Manor House in East Sussex the cast
includes Venera Gimadieva, Michael Fabiano and Tassis
Christoyannis.
Double bill of comic operas composed by Donizetti and performed by
the London Philharmonic Orchestra and The Glyndebourne Chorus at
the Glyndebourne Opera House. Enrique Mazzola conducts a 2013
performance of 'Don Pasquale' in which Alessandro Corbelli stars in
the title role, alongside Danielle de Niese, Nikolay Borchev and
Alek Shrader. Maurizio Benini leads the orchestra in 'L'elisir
d'amore' (2009). The cast includes Ekaterina Siurina, Peter Auty,
Alfredo Daza and Luciano di Pasquale.
