This collection of Lafcadio Hearn's writings, including ghost
stories and letters, is published to mark the centenary of Hearn's
arrival in Japan. Hearn was the son of an Anglo-Irish surgeon major
in the British army and a Greek mother and became famous as one of
Japan's "great interpreters", at a time when Japan was undergoing
dramatic social change as a result of the modernization programme
begun in the 1860s.
A book concerning the Japanese identity in which the author
theorizes that the national mentality is a dichotomy between the
"equestrian" and the "peasant". He draws on Japanese and European
classical literature, on the history of warfare and on studies of
law and business management.

It was Louis Allen's work on Japan which dominated his prodigious
output as a scholar, researcher and writer and which received
greatest attention internationally. This collection of his writings
focuses entirely on his principal fields of research, viz, Japan
and the Pacific War, the post-war conflicts in Burma, Malaya and
Indochina, and the immediate post-war years in the context of
Japan, security and reconciliation. Importantly, in addition to the
24 essays brought together here from both known and unknown
sources, we are pleased to publish for the first time Louis Allen's
own undated autobiographical paper entitled 'Innocents Abroad:
Investigating War Crimes in South-East Asia', providing a unique,
first-hand account of his war-time life and activities. This volume
also includes a complete bibliography of Louis Allen's writings
covering all disciplines.

Trillions of years have passed since the Mooroo race burst forth
from the pairing of two alien creatures. For eons, the Mooroos have
reigned over many territories, fulfilling their unquenchable desire
to preserve the species.
The instinct to flourish burns in Soomooroo and Moochoomoo,
longtime companions who live on Voormoo, their celestial home. When
Soomooroo wins the deed to a large galaxy in an ancient card game,
the pair launches a scouting expedition to explore every expanse of
the boundless universe.
In the process, they encounter a range of alien species,
including the Swoomoows, the Nogonogs, and the Yellow Dog of
Heuweltjies Plateau, some of which are peaceful, others
unwelcoming. They also seek out Goddoo, the creator of all, to
stand in his presence and thank him for bringing forth light across
the great void of darkness. Most importantly, Soomooroo ensures the
Mooroovian race will live on through his son, the first Mooroovian
to inherit eternal life and race memory, ensuring everlasting
existence.
Science fiction devotees, especially fans of the Klingon
language developed for" Star Trek: The Motion Picture, " will want
to start "The Mooroos "with its extensive glossary of alien terms
to appreciate this high-tech, science fiction adventure.
