Barrabas, premier roman-feuilleton de Maurice Level dans Le Journal, y para t en 83 pisodes du 27 f vrier au 20 mai 1920, parall lement la projection du film de Louis Feuillade sur les crans. Conteur et chroniqueur depuis 1901 dans ce quotidien, Maurice Level n'intervient qu' la demande du Journal, lequel aura t approch par Feuillade. Fr le vieillard -- du moins en apparence -- au fa te de sa puissance n faste, Barrabas (Strelitz) est un chef de bande impitoyable. Fourbe et d loyal, il s'empare de la fortune du banquier Mortimer et tente ensuite de corrompre l'avocat Jacques Var se qui commence s'int resser ses activit s. Ne parvenant pas retourner celui-ci, une lutte f roce s'engage alors entre eux. Dans sa postface, Jean-Luc Buard revient longuement sur la r alisation du film. Une galerie photographique provenant des archives de M. Champreux, petit-fils de Feuillade, ainsi qu'un inventaire de 110 cin -romans publi s en feuilletons dans les quotidiens de 1915 1927 terminent ce volume.
