"Tom Brown is an early, well-drawn character in what was to become
a familiar genre in English fiction: a chronicle of life at an
English boys' boarding school. In the novel, Tom, a student at
Rugby School in the time of Thomas Arnold's headmastership, is
harassed by the school bully, Flashman, but overcomes his trials.
During his school career, Tom does very well academically and on
the playing fields." -- The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of

It was in 1880 and 1881 that Robert Louis Stevenson wrote "Treasure
Island," which was begun at Braemar, Scotland, where his father
aided him with suggestions from his own seafaring experiences. It
was finished in the course of his second visit to Davos in the
winter of 1881-1882. "Treasure Island," which appeared when the
author was thirty-one, was his first long romance, and it brought
to him his first taste of popular success, when the story was
published in book form. It was in October 1881, that this story
began to appear as a serial in an English magazine called "Young
Folks." The title then was "The Sea Cook, or Treasure Island," but
when published in book form in May 1883, the name was simply
"Treasure Island," a name which has taken its place among the
titles of far older classics. This edition contains the superb
illustrations of Louis Rhead, which were first published in 1915.

high quality, modern editions, using the original artwork and text.
Covering everything from the evolution of the brook trout species
to recipes for cooking them, The Speckled Brook Trout is a loving
compendium about one of the most beautiful and beloved of all fish.
Originally published in 1902, Rhead takes today's reader of a
wonderful nostalgic journey through the American waters inhabited
by the brook trout and to the lands through which those waters
flow. We visit the famous Beaverkill River of New York in its
pristine, unspoiled state, and venture to the Adirondacks that
would later become home to the posh and exclusive mountain clubs of
the eastern United States. With lovely line art illustrations
throughout the book, this Derrydale classic belongs in every sports
and fishing collection.
