The Systematic Mistreatment of Children in the Foster Care System tells the stories of 10 children in the foster care system from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and the efforts by advocates to find them permanent places to live, appropriate schooling, and other essentials they need to survive. The children's case studies highlight the difficulties in placing and maintaining them in healthy living situations with supportive educational, mental health, and other services. The book shows how children fall-sometimes over and over again-through the "deep cracks" that exist within and between the various agencies of the multi-agency system of care that was designed to help them. Appropriate placement and services for children in foster care typically requires the coordination and collaboration of several agencies, including the juvenile court, child protective services (CPS), school districts, and departments of mental health (DMH). The Systematic Mistreatment of Children in the Foster Care System shows how these agencies frequently fail to meet their legal obligations to children in the system and what can be done to address these failures-and the outcomes they produce. The Systematic Mistreatment of Children in the Foster Care System includes: an introduction to the child protective services system the general route by which children in the United States are removed from their parents' custody because or abuse and neglect the major components of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the problems in getting foster children's educational needs met the difficulties in securing stable out-of-home placements strategies for stabilizing home placements problems in funding for out-of-home placements strategies for advocating the removal of children from inadequate out-of-home placements legislation and practices for bringing about needed policy changes and much more Equally valuable as a professional tool and as a classroom resource, The Systematic Mistreatment of Children in the Foster Care System includes introductions to specific issues presented in each chapter; case studies that illuminate the issues presented; subsections for each case study chapter entitled "Prevention," "Intervention," "Advocacy Considerations," and "What Had Gone Wrong;" boxed items highlighting practical strategies, laws, and other relevant information; and a conclusion and summary of each chapter.
This Is A New Release Of The Original 1918 Edition.
Sequel to the 2012 Next Generation Indie Book Award Winner "Blood Harvest" It has been two years since the sadistic madman, Dr. Phineas Whelan who abducted thousands of innocent people in order to harvest elements of their blood, escaped from the "vampires" who had thwarted his plans. Since then Steve Jacobs, former LAPD detective and "vampire," has been unsuccessfully searching for him. An old enemy unexpectedly arrives at Steve's door with an offer of information that will lead Steve to Dr. Whelan, but the price is high. Against his better judgment Steve makes a deal and the search takes Steve, along with his mysterious and beautiful partner Lei, half way around the world to Bangkok and the jungle that surrounds it. There they encounter the product of Dr. Whelan's latest horrific experiments, a monster unlike anything they could have imagined, trained to be a killing machine and for sale to the highest bidder. But not everything is as it seems. Dark secrets from the past come to light where friends and enemies are not always easy to tell apart.
1918. The volume is comprised of a series of photos of sculptures by Rodin, poet and philosopher, sublime genius, and master sculptor. Rodin is considered to be one of France's greatest artists. No other modern artist has been so controversial, yet had such extravagant epithets and honors, nor had such international impact. A substantial introduction is provided by Louis Weinberg.
Steve Jacobs isn't a Vampire...not really...then again... It doesn't really matter what he is or was anymore because Steve abandoned the darkness of his former life over a decade ago when he left the only people he ever considered to be family and ran to California. There he joined the Los Angeles Police Department, graduated first in his class at the Academy and now works as a Detective in the Homicide division. Respected by his fellow officers and enjoying a special bond with his Captain, whom he considers to be his mentor, Steve feels that he has finally found a place where the world makes sense and he can leave his dark past behind. So when his Captain calls in the middle of the night and instructs him to come to a highly unusual crime scene, Steve does so without question. Arriving on the scene Steve discovers that the entire staff and patronage of nearly one thousand people at a popular and hedonistic Los Angeles nightclub have suddenly and mysteriously collapsed where they stood and appear to be dead. Rumors of a biological or chemical terrorist attack are doubted by the large number of LAPD and emergency personnel on the scene, but there seems to be no other explanation for the unnerving occurrence. Then, before Steve can even fully begin his investigation, the case goes from unusual to absolutely bizarre with the appearance of an exotically beautiful and seductive woman in the company of a large, incredibly powerful white haired man. Both individuals are people that Steve thought he had left behind over a decade ago, but he now finds his past and his present are interwoven together in a mystery that threatens to destroy everything that he holds dear. Steve quickly learns that what happened at the nightclub was only the tip of the iceberg in a much larger conspiracy of greed that, if he is unable to stop, will enslave an entire society of people, the existence of whom the rest of the world isn't even aware, and are the people that Steve used to call his family.
