The Camberwell Assessment of Need for Mothers (CAN-M) is a tool for
assessing the needs of pregnant women and mothers with severe
mental illness. It is a modification of the Camberwell Assessment
of Need, the most widely used needs assessment for people with
severe mental health problems. Comprehensive versions are included
for research and for clinical use, as well as a short summary
version suitable for both clinical and research use. The CAN-M has
been rigorously developed by a multidisciplinary team at the
Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, and is suitable for
use in mental health, obstetric and primary care settings. This
book includes a review of the needs of pregnant women and mothers
with severe mental illness, the rating scales, descriptions of how
they were developed and their psychometric properties,
administration details, a full training programme, guidance on
scoring and blank assessment forms (for all three versions) for
photocopying.
Mental health problems during and immediately after pregnancy are a
major concern across the world. As well as affecting the health of
the mother, they can have significant, harmful, and long term
effects on the infant if not dealt with effectively. Perinatal
Psychiatry honours the work of Channi Kumar, one of the seminal
figures in the history of perinatal psychiatry, and presents a
comprehensive multidisciplinary review of the field. Bringing
together the leading researchers in the area, it covers the causes
of perinatal mental health problems, the biology of perinatal
depression and its more extreme form, puerperal psychosis, as well
as psychosocial and psychological interventions, hormonal and
neural substrates of perinatal depression, and risk factors and
epidemiology.
We are all familiar with bustling Tube stations and overcrowded
carriages, but have you ever wondered what the London Underground
looks like empty? Victoria Louise Howard's haunting photographs
reveal just that: beautiful architecture, engineering and design as
never seen before. Motivated by her desire to conquer her fear of
confined underground spaces, she set herself the goal of capturing
every Tube station, travelling to all 270 of them and waiting for
the crowds to leave. The diary she kept during her project reveals
the battle she fought to overcome her anxiety. Victoria's
photographs uncover the history, beauty and tranquillity of a
deserted London Underground that is rarely seen by those who use it
the most.
Originally published in 1939, this book advises women living in the
country on how they can best use the natural resources around them.
Not only for financial reasons, but for a sense of the pride and
pleasure of creation. 'There is no doubt that some of the arts
practised, especially the minor arts, have arisen directly out of
the strong wish to make something, and above all, "something out of
nothing," i.e. out of nothing bought.' In 1939, as is the case
today, there was a fear that these 'old arts' such as weaving and
spinning, were in danger of being lost, and this book aims to
address that issue. Contents Include: Wool - Flax, Cotton, Hemp -
Hides and Skins - Wood and Bark - Various Animal Products - Various
Vegetable Products - Mineral Products - "Something out of Nothing"
- The Use of Vegetable Dyes by Mrs. Violetta Thurstan - The Romance
of the Patch-Work Quilt by Mrs. Elston F. Holton
