As a young child she knew nothing of the sighted world around her but that didn't stop her interacting with nature, experiencing the thrill of God's creation. She held her grandmother's hand but she thought that was because Grandmother needed her help not the other way around.

As a little girl, Frances (Fanny) loved to climb trees, enjoy the countryside and to run about with her spaniel. The mountains of Switzerland inspired her and she loved hiking on the steep slopes. This life destroying disease under Paul s loving care became something treatable and manageable. Lepers no longer needed to be outcasts. Paul s faith in God, his love for mankind and his medical abilities gave those who suffered from leprosy a new life and hope.
