En su libro De la Ira, perteneciente a sus tratados sobre las
pasiones humanas, Lucio Anneo Seneca pretende analizar en
profundidad este sentimiento humano, al cual considera el mas
nefasto de todos. Estudia sus causas, definiciones, estados y
consecuencias, pero sobretodo trata de la relacion directa que
tiene sobre el hombre, mas concretamente sobre el hombre virtuoso
de la epoca griega, de su utilidad y de si posee alguna relacion
con los objetivos estoicos para dicho hombre que son: concordancia
con la razon, la naturaleza y la excelencia personal del ser
humano.
Este libro de Tratados Morales de Lucio Anneo Seneca, contiene
siete de los once Dialogos que el autor escribio. En los mismos se
describe su vision filosofica, sus ideas estoicas, y su cosmovision
en general, las cuales marcaron por siglos la moral y la manera de
pensar y hacer del hombre occidental y cristiano. Desde sus inicios
Seneca abrazo el estoicismo, sobre todo en su vertiente moral, y
toda su obra gira en torno a esta doctrina, de la que llego a ser,
al menos en la teoria, uno de los maximos exponentes. Sin embargo,
aunque en su obra se presenta siempre como estoico, ya en su propio
tiempo fue tachado de hipocrita, al no ser capaz de vivir segun los
principios que propugnaba en su obra. En efecto, a lo largo de toda
su vida fue acusado de haberse acostado con mujeres casadas.
Ademas, la estrecha relacion con los excesos de Neron demuestra las
profundas limitaciones de sus ensenanzas en cuanto a la templanza y
la autodisciplina propias de un estoico.
