Technology trends may come and go, but cloud computing technologies have been gaining consideration in the commercial world due to its ability to provide on-demand access to resources, control the software environment, and supplement existing systems. Pervasive Cloud Computing Technologies: Future Outlooks and Interdisciplinary Perspectives explores the latest innovations with cloud computing and the impact of these new models and technologies. This book will present case studies and research on the future of cloud computing technologies and its ability to increase connectivity of various entities of the world. It is an essential resource for technology practitioners, engineers, managers, and academics aiming to gain the knowledge of these novel and pervasive technologies.
The book discusses some key scientific and technological developments in high performance computing, identifies significant trends, and defines desirable research objectives. It covers general concepts and emerging systems, software technology, algorithms and applications. Coverage includes hardware, software tools, networks and numerical methods, new computer architectures, and a discussion of future trends. Beyond purely scientific/engineering computing, the book extends to coverage of enterprise-wide, commercial applications, including papers on performance and scalability of database servers and Oracle DBM systems. Audience: Most papers are research level, but some are suitable for computer literate managers and technicians, making the book useful to users of commercial parallel computers.
This volume contains 13 selected keynote papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Numerical Analysis and Optimization. Held every three years at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman, this conference highlights novel and advanced applications of recent research in numerical analysis and optimization. Each peer-reviewed chapter featured in this book reports on developments in key fields, such as numerical analysis, numerical optimization, numerical linear algebra, numerical differential equations, optimal control, approximation theory, applied mathematics, derivative-free optimization methods, programming models, and challenging applications that frequently arise in statistics, econometrics, finance, physics, medicine, biology, engineering and industry. Any graduate student or researched wishing to know the latest research in the field will be interested in this volume. This book is dedicated to the late Professors Mike JD Powell and Roger Fletcher, who were the pioneers and leading figures in the mathematics of nonlinear optimization.
This volume contains papers presented at the NATO sponsored Advanced Research Workshop on "Software for Parallel Computation" held at the University of Calabria, Cosenza, Italy, from June 22 to June 26, 1992. The purpose of the workshop was to evaluate the current state-of-the-art of the software for parallel computation, identify the main factors inhibiting practical applications of parallel computers and suggest possible remedies. In particular it focused on parallel software, programming tools, and practical experience of using parallel computers for solving demanding problems. Critical issues relative to the practical use of parallel computing included: portability, reusability and debugging, parallelization of sequential programs, construction of parallel algorithms, and performance of parallel programs and systems. In addition to NATO, the principal sponsor, the following organizations provided a generous support for the workshop: CERFACS, France, C.I.R.A., Italy, C.N.R., Italy, University of Calabria, Italy, ALENIA, Italy, The Boeing Company, U.S.A., CISE, Italy, ENEL - D.S.R., Italy, Alliant Computer Systems, Bull RN Sud, Italy, Convex Computer, Digital Equipment Corporation, Rewlett Packard, Meiko Scientific, U.K., PARSYTEC Computer, Germany, TELMAT Informatique, France, Thinking Machines Corporation.
Most of the papers in this volume were presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop High Performance Computing: Technology and Application, held in Cetraro, Italy from 24 to 26 of June, 1996. The main purpose of the Workshop was to discuss some key scientific and technological developments in high performance computing, identify significant trends and defme desirable research objectives. The volume structure corresponds, in general, to the outline of the workshop technical agenda: general concepts and emerging systems, software technology, algorithms and applications. One of the Workshop innovations was an effort to extend slightly the scope of the meeting from scientific/engineering computing to enterprise-wide computing. The papers on performance and scalability of database servers, and Oracle DBMS reflect this attempt We hope that after reading this collection of papers the readers will have a good idea about some important research and technological issues in high performance computing. We wish to give our thanks to the NATO Scientific and Environmental Affairs Division for being the principal sponsor for the Workshop. Also we are pleased to acknowledge other institutions and companies that supported the Workshop: European Union: European Commission DGIII-Industry, CNR: National Research Council of Italy, University of Calabria, Alenia Spazio, Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali, ENEA: Italian National Agency for New Technology, Energy and the Environment, Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard-Convex, Hitachi, NEC, Oracle, and Silicon Graphics-Cray Research.
