How does culture affect action? This question has long been framed in terms of a means vs ends debate-in other words, do cultural ends or cultural means play a primary causal role in human behavior? However, the role of socialization has been largely overlooked in this debate. In this book, Vila-Henninger develops a model of how culture affects action called "The Sociological Dual-Process Model of Outcomes" that incorporates socialization. This book contributes to the debate by first providing a critical overview of the literature that explains the limitations of the sociological dual-process model and subsequent scholarship-and especially work in sociology on "schemas". It then develops a sociological dual-process model of moral judgment that formally explains Type I processes, Type II processes, and the interaction between Type I and Type II processes. The book also expands sociological dual-process models to include a temporal dimension-the "Sociological Dual-Process Model of Outcomes". Finally, the book integrates a theory of socialization into the sociological dual-process model and creates empirical indicators that confirm Vila-Henninger's theorization and contribute to the literature on measures of dual-process models.
This workbook presents the answers to the exercises in Macroeconomic Theory, Fluctuations, Inflation and Growth in Closed and Open Economies by Fernando de Holanda Barbosa (2018). Altogether, there are 172 exercises in eleven chapters and three appendices. The organization of this workbook follows the organization of the main text. The first part deals with flexible price models, including the representative agent model, the overlapping generations model, and the Solow growth model. The second part covers sticky price models; both Keynesian and Neoclassical. The third part presents exercises on the government budget constraint and monetary theory issues. There are two types of exercises in this workbook. The first type provides the student with material to practice for a full understanding the subjects presented in the text. The second type covers topics that are not dealt with in the main text, but are included for the sake of completeness. These exercises are marked with an asterisk and can be solved using the tools presented in the corresponding textbook chapter or appendix.
This volume explores the governance and management of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in relation to innovation policy and governance systems, highlighting its goal, challenges, and opportunities. Divided into two sections, it addresses the role of governments in promoting innovation in Latin-American contexts as well as barriers and opportunities for STI governance in the region. The chapters tackle the role of institutions, innovation funding, technological trajectories, regional innovation policies, innovation ecosystems, universities, knowledge appropriation, and markets. Researchers and scholars will find an opportunity to grasp a better understanding of innovation policies in emerging economies. This interdisciplinary work presents original research on science, technology and innovation policy and governance studies in an understudied region.

Broadcasting in Mexico (1979) traces the birth and growth of Mexico’s broadcasting services against the background of its geographical, cultural, demographic, economic and political structure. The development of Mexican radio and television has been characterised by innovation and experiment by both government and private enterprise, and sometimes the country has been the beneficiary of these efforts and sometimes the victim. Up to a certain point, the cultural infrastructure of the country itself dictated the path taken by the media, although there have been temptations to imitate the established structure of other countries.
In order to be developed, inter-organizational relationships, as well as organizational cultures, rely on communication, learning, trust, commitment, and shared meanings and symbols. This book discusses the emergence and development of an inter-organizational culture, in which meanings, beliefs, and values of people from different companies interact. It proposes that inter-organizational culture can be seen as a culture of intersection, because of the association of cultural perspectives between suppliers and intermediaries. The more the parties are motivated to maintain the relationship, the more willing they are to invest in that relationship, which minimizes the risk of dissolution, promotes interaction, and contributes to cultural changes. The authors consider organizational culture through a three-perspective framework involving integration, differentiation, and fragmentation, at the intersection of which inter-organizational culture develops. This book will provide scholars with a better understanding of the connection between relationship marketing and organizational behavior, through the emergence of a specific culture.
This volume explores voters' political rationalizations. The author analyzes semi-structured interview data from 120 American voters collected from 2013-2015 about their positions on three economic referenda-or "direct democratic economic policies" (DDEPs) on the Arizona state ballot from 2008-2012. Building on the literature on voter reasoning and rationalization, the author firstly probes how the intersection of economic position and partisan affiliation shape partisan voters' rationalizations of their DDEP positions. Secondly, he investigates the political and economic discourses that voters use to justify their DDEP positions. This book extends classic sociological theories of individual-level and collective legitimacy, along with contemporary theories of voter rationalization. The findings also help to build theories of American political ideology and values, neoliberalism, moral economy, and norms of self-interest.
Interest in brain connectivity inference has become ubiquitous and is now increasingly adopted in experimental investigations of clinical, behavioral, and experimental neurosciences. Methods in Brain Connectivity Inference through Multivariate Time Series Analysis gathers the contributions of leading international authors who discuss different time series analysis approaches, providing a thorough survey of information on how brain areas effectively interact. Incorporating multidisciplinary work in applied mathematics, statistics, and animal and human experiments at the forefront of the field, the book addresses the use of time series data in brain connectivity interference studies. Contributors present codes and data examples to back up their methodological descriptions, exploring the details of each proposed method as well as an appreciation of their merits and limitations. Supplemental material for the book, including code, data, practical examples, and color figures is supplied in the form of downloadable resources with directories organized by chapter and instruction files that provide additional detail. The field of brain connectivity inference is growing at a fast pace with new data/signal processing proposals emerging so often as to make it difficult to be fully up to date. This consolidated panorama of data-driven methods includes theoretical bases allied to computational tools, offering readers immediate hands-on experience in this dynamic arena.
Luis Antonio Santalo (Spain 1911 - Argentina 2001) contributed to several branches of Geometry, his laying of the mathematical foundations of Stereology and its applications perhaps being his most outstanding achievement. A considerable power of abstraction, a brilliant geometric intuition and an outstanding gift as a disseminator of science were among his virtues. The present volume contains a selection of his best papers. Part I consists of a short biography and some photographs together with a complete list of his publications, classified into research papers, books, and articles on education and the popularization of mathematics, as well as a comprehensive analysis of his contribution to science. Part II, the main part of the book, includes selected papers, arranged into five sections according to the nature of their contents: Differential Geometry, Integral Geometry, Convex Geometry, Affine Geometry, and Statistics and Stereology. Each section is preceded by a commentary by a renowned specialist: Teufel, Langevin, Schneider, Leichtweiss, and Cruz-Orive, respectively. Finally, Part III emphasizes the influence of his work. It contains commentaries by several specialists regarding modern results based on, or closely related to, those of Santalo, some book reviews written by Santalo, as well as some reviews of his books. As a curious addendum, a ranking of his articles, given by Santalo himself, is included.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle offers one of the most inspiring and influential voices in the global Catholic Church today. In Telling the Story of Jesus, he encourages readers to be in communion with Jesus, who is the story of God. The cardinal tells us that this communion is found in the Eucharist as well as among the lost, the tired, and the abandoned people of this world. In this collection of powerful addresses, Tagle focuses on three fundamental dimensions of Christian experience: authentic spiritual worship of Jesus in and beyond Eucharist, our communion in the word of God, and the mission each one of us has to tell the story of Jesus based on our experience of him. Cardinal Tagle combines biblical narration and personal experience with sound theological reflection so that the story of Jesus becomes a story of love that leads to hope for the poor, for the church, and for the life of the entire world.
