El tiempo desde que se produce una prediccion incorrecta hasta que se restaura el estado del procesador se denomina penalizacion asociada a las predicciones de saltos. Esta penalizacion resulta en una degradacion del rendimiento y mayor consumo energetico ya que se procesan muchas instrucciones que no realizan trabajo efectivo. El objetivo principal de este libro es la reduccion de dicha penalizacion mediante el uso de la estimacion de confianza.
