The 'Carrying on in Key Stage 1' series supports the continuing growth and development of independent learning and practical activities, which are features of early learning. The aim is to encourage teachers in Key Stage 1 to build on the best of practice in the Early Years Foundation Stage, balancing adult directed tasks with learning that children initiate and develop themselves. The activities covered by the series are the ones children often say they miss most when they move into Years 1 and 2. Sand offers ideas and guidance for providing children with a wide range of interesting challenges to use sand, gravel and other natural materials to explore, construct, imagine and experiment. It supports development in literacy, numeracy and creativity through active play and problem solving. The authors are all experienced educators who have worked in schools, settings and local authority support services, and are now in high demand as writers and trainers.
Places for Worship The Teacher's Activity book supports the Places for Worship television programmes by highlighting their key learning outcomes. The pack contains 18 photocopiable activity sheets, 14 A4 photocards, DVD and an array of teaching and discussion ideas.

A Story for Christmas
"The Places for Worship" series presents children and their families from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. "At Home and the Synogogue" introduces two children who are both Jewish: Rachel, whose family goes to an Orthodox synagogue, and David, whose family goes to a Reform synagogue. Through the eyes of the children, the book explores the key features of their worship at their respective synagogues. The similarities and differences will be highlighted and discussed by the children and identified for teachers in the Teacher's notes in the Big Book. Topics on homes, families and special places are common in early years' classrooms and address the themes of the non-statutory framework of RE for Foundation and Key Stage 1. Read as a class text, by groups of children or by independent readers, this series provides a lively introduction to each faith and a sound basis for classroom discussion and activities. The language level is appropriate for pupils aged 5-6 (Key Stage 1). The A5-size pupil's books are accessible for independent readers aged 6-8 (KS1 and lower KS2). This series is available in both English and Welsh language editions.
