"The English for Life Reader for Grade 5 contains examples of a novel, folklore, short stories, dramas, and various information and media texts, such as newspaper and magazine articles, poems, advertisements, brochures, posters, and notices. These are the texts suggested as teaching support material for Grade 5 by the Department of Basic Education. The English for Life Reader provides a volume of reading material that is easy to access, and which has been chosen specifically for the Grade 5 learner. The content is interesting, thought-provoking and exciting and offers examples of texts that can be found in everyday life. The Reader can be used on its own as a supplement to classroom material, or in conjunction with the English for Life Grade 5 textbook for English as Home Language.

Lecturers using the series can teach with confidence because content is comprehensive, up-to-date, and meets all the curriculum requirements for the subject, outcomes and assessment standards are clearly identified, and assessment tasks and activities are aligned to the outcomes and assessment standards. Prescribing lecturers have access to comprehensive lecturer support material on CD including model answers to assessments in the textbook, additional assessments with model answers, rubrics for assessments, and general reference material on teaching outcomes-based education. The series is available for all programmes, all fundamental and compulsory subjects, and all elective and optional subjects.

The Teacher’s Guide for English for Life Grade 11 has been compiled according to the requirements of the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement. The Teacher’s Guide supports the teacher’s task by providing Teaching, Learning and Assessment Plans for the year; guidance for lesson planning and classroom practice; a formal assessment programme; daily assessment with the activities; answer keys for each module; guidance in the form of information boxes; a user-friendly lay-out.
